My last thread asked who you'd like the Wolves sign now as a free agent PG. This thread asks the following: Which of the following current non-PG free agents would be your first choice to sign to the Wolves "final" roster slot?

Pretty easy to go with Dante here. He's a known commodity who, other than the false accusation by a bitter girlfriend, always represented the team well on and off the court. We know what he brought when he was here, and the addition of a 40% 3-point shot only increases his value. Cunningham all day,

Yep

One of the best FA available now that basically isn't talked about is Matt Barnes. I can get why but the dude always seems to be able to make an impact. I wonder if he is just waiting for the right opportunity/someone has to call him. If a good team has a wing injury I been he will get calls if he is wanting to play this year.

Dante is solid, but I'm not prepared to recognize him as a good three-point shooter based on one season when the rest of his long career he wasn't. And he's not a particularly good rebounder statistically. I'd go with Lee over Dante.

I've been a big fan of David lee for years but I don't get why we would sign him? When is he gonna play?

Slim pickings there. I'll go caged lion because why not. Him or Canaan just for youth at this point. We have enough vets at this point from what I can tell.

Good point Doper. Bottom line is that we're down to the 13th and 14th roster spots. These are guys who would likely see very little playing time. No NBA rotation goes beyond 10 and Thibs' rotation is likely to be shorter, going no more than 8 or 9 deep. Of course that's probably why there aren't many free agents interesting in signing with us right now. In any event, given that we're down to filling out the end of our bench, going with a couple younger more athletic guys like Derrick Williams and Isaiah Canaan might be the best course right now, but not Derrick if he still has the same "I don't give a crap when do we party" attitude he had when he was here before.

Honestly, I'd be fine with any of the following: Dante Cunningham, David Lee, Derrick Williams, Andrew Bogut, Thomas Robinson, Aaron Brooks or Isaiah Canaan.

If we're going to sign another PF I'd like it to be someone who can really add a lot on the boards. That would be Robinson or Bogut and to a lesser degree David Lee. Bogut also adds size and shot-blocking, although I don't know where he's at physically after all his injuries.

If we're looking to add three-point shooting then Aaron Brooks would be the best bet followed by Dunleavy and Isaiah Canaan. I like Canaan's relative youth and the fact that Canaan can also drive the lane and defend a bit. But Dunleavy and Brooks are clearly the most consistently good three-point shooters left on the board. Brooks seems the better fit because we're a bit thin at PG with Tyus as our only backup PG compared to the wing position which has Bazz, Crawford and Belly.

If we're just looking for a solid guy and reliable player, then Cunningham should be one of the final two signings this summer. He's still 30 years old without too many miles on his tread, so he should be playing at his peak right now and for the next couple of seasons thereafter. And if his three-point shooting last season wasn't a fluke, then he'd be a great addition as a 13th guy.

One thing to consider about the wing position is the young guys they will have in camp. It's just workouts and pickup games or whatever but Wolfson said that 2-way contract guy Anthony Brown has looked good. Georges-Hunt could absolutely make the team and he is a pretty versatile guy. Are these guys still sort of longshots? Sure but this is how guys like Anthony Morrow and Toliiver etc get into the league and have a nice career. Brown is a guy that I could see making the next step but MGH is a guy teams seem to clearly like and might be able to play some at all the perimeter positions which makes him pretty valuable if he can actually play. Don't count out a guy like Melo Trimble either. Again this is how some guys that are in the league make it. One example is Ron Baker who based on all the draft analysis is basically not supposed to be on an NBA roster and he got a nice 2 year contract from the Knicks this year as a combo guard. Ok that's the Knicks :) but Baker did look like a pretty useful bench player. The Knicks have done/did a good job finding some worthwhile players with picks 2nd round and other fringe moves.

Having said all that it would be nice to get one more vet on the perimeter. Right now it's Teague Butler and Crawford as vets. Bazz and Wiggins are the next vet guys there.

IMO if we want a promising/intruiging big I say sign one to a 2-way contract. I really wish we would have been able to get Costello but there are likely other guys out there that will take that deal.

Bogus signed with the Lakers but I guess the Wolves made a pitch.

https://twitter.com/daldridgetnt/status/909979492696895488

"Wolves made major pitch for Bogutl; had playing time/role available behind KAT. Celtics, Cavs also were in mix, but Bogut liked LA vibe."

It's interesting the Wolves went after him with all their front court depth but the reality is if Bogut is healthy he was one of the best remaining FA left. BPA seems to be the Wolves angle the last few weeks aiming high and they already got Bazz. We will see if they get Dante.
