Final Wolves Free Agent Additions

With the Crawford signing, the Wolves now have 11 roster players. Thibs has made it clear, he's only going to carry 14 roster players going into the season, which leaves 3 more spots. According to the most recent report on ESPN,Thibs said he is focused on getting more depth at PG and more wing players who can defend and shoot. Here's part of what Thibs said:

"The one thing about this year in comparison to last year, the free agency is moving a lot slower," Thibodeau said. "So there's still a lot of players up on the board and we feel we're going to have a good shot at some guys that can really play and we want to continue to look at the shooting component, and, of course, guys that can play defense."

So you want guys who can play defense and you sign Crawford? But anyway, with 3 spots left to fill I would think Thibs will sign one PG and two wings or perhaps one wing and another big who is more of a stretch 4. Based on Thibs own words, who should he sign and who do you think he'll sign?

If it were me trying to do what Thibs said we need to do, I'd sign Aaron Brooks for more depth at PG. He's by far the best 3-point shooting PG among the still available FAs. I'd also sign Afflalo as the best two-way, three-point shooting wing still available. And I'd sign Tolliver as the best 3-point shooting stretch 4 who can play some SF and play both sides of the ball. Instead of Tolliver or Afflalo, I'd consider signing Ian Clark to bring in some more youth and upside. Even though Dunleavy and Luke Babbit are excellent 3-point shooters, their are not, in Thibs words, "guys that can play defense."

I guess I would be willing to gamble a bit:

PG: Sessions or Lawson. I have always been a fan of Sessions....solid vet. Lawson is not far removed from being a very solid player. I know he has had some personal issues in past, but last year seemed to correct himself a bit.

Wings: Afflalo, Gerald Henderson,

Stretch 4: Mike Beasley

Thibs did clarify: looking for 1 PG and 2 wings.

I would love to be able to not watch Ramon Sessions or Aaron Brooks running the Wolves offense next season.

lol. At least Brooks can shoot the three. Sessions brings nothing to the table. He'd be a horrible addition. Who would you want to see the Wolves sign for more PG depth?

Thanks, Tim. So who do you think Thibs SHOULD sign and who do you think he WILL sign to fill the 1 PG and 2 wing slots on the team?

Not every player he signs is going to do everything he wants. Defense and 3pt shooting were the main two priorities and he added 3 league average 3pt shooters including 1 volume shooter and 2 really good defensive players. I don't get the shots at Thibs because every guy he signed doesn't shoot 40% from 3 and defend.

Not entirely sure. Deron Williams!

Ok, that's not realistic. I am excited to see consistent run from Tyus Jones this season. I guess Brooks as a 3rd guy is palatable, even if I don't like the view. Anything but Brandon Jennings. Can we agree on that?

Something to consider:

A couple years ago Flip signed 2 older players to this team for the vet min Prince and Andre Miller. Both were added in August. Last year Dion Waiters didn't sign till late July. We may have to wait things out to see these last few signings.

As for my prediction? There are too many names out there. Everyone here has some guys they like and dislike. There are only so many roster spots left around the league at this point. Keep in mind there could be guys that are let go that either we could be interested in or other teams would want that leave another guy available. For example Pat C from the Blazers they have to decide by July 26 I think it is if they want to guarantee his contract for next year or not. He could go pitch as well but yeah there are other guys like that and maybe even a minor trade. Again there are so many options to try and predict what guys could end up here.

Agreed. The revised lower cap after last year's frenzy has changed the landscape significantly.

A lot of teams will be able to benefit from some surprisingly smaller contracts.
