Towns' comment

"That shows you why he's such an elite player in this league," Karl-Anthony Towns said. "I was glad to have the popcorn right there and have a front row seat for it because it was amazing."

Does anyone else find the comment odd here? Somehow I smell sour grapes and disharmony.

Sure on some level as ultra competitive guys with at least semi large egos (lets be honest) watching a teammate go off and dominate the game instead of you can be a bit envious. But I think for KAT the win FAR out weighs the bit of envy for Butlers play during the game.

For me in team sports, I was always just happy if we won, but even happier if I played a large or largest role, sure. Same goes the other way, you do not want to be a reason you lose either. A loss sucks a ton more when you played a large role too.

I think you're reading too much into it.

Thanks for the analysis and I sure hope I am wrong.

It's just that Wiggins' continuously sub-par performance, Towns' atrocious defence and Butler calling out people worry me quite a bit about the team chemistry going forward.

It seems to me these guys generally get along OK, but you can tell these guys are far from a well-oiled machine. There was one play last night where KAT had it in the post and missed a wide open Butler cutting along the baseline as he was being doubled. Butler just kind of shook his head.....

I think offensively the biggest issues are pace and space. Butler is a plodder, Wiggins is a loper, and Teague pushes the ball less than one might think he would given his speed. It limits the amount of easy baskets we could be getting. And most our starting perimeter 3 all prefer to put the ball on the floor, which leads to a lot of driving into a crowd of people in the paint.

I don't see anything to read into here just a teammate saying he enjoyed a fellow player have a really good performance.

I don't see anything in this comment except respect for Jimmy and relie that he carried the team to victory. I watch the interactions between these guys and see absolutely no envy or disharmony.

Butler said when he came here that he would call players out if he though it necessary. So no one should be surprised. There's a little too much hyperbole lately when it comes to Towns' defense. He's no worse than he's been and actually has shown signs of improvement the past couple weeks. They chemistry seems fine so far. Winning helps. :)

You nailed it Q. The problem is pace and space. We've become a slow plodding team playing isolation basketball. Frustrating to watch and probably frustrating to play. And yes, it limits the amount of easy buckets we could be getting and ends up in far too many last second contested twos.
