I wish we hadn't stretched out Martin's contract

Given that we have 22 Million left to fill two slots and we will likely have plenty of unused cap space after we fill these slots, I am dissapointed by the earlier decision to stretch out Martin's contract. We could have extinguished the salary cap hit from Martin this season as opposed to the next two seasons. I know its not a huge number, but its a total of 2.6 Million: 1.3 in each of the next two seasons and since we will likely extend Dieng and possibly Bazz, add a draft pick next year and hopefully be able to sign someone helpful it would be nice to have more room to work with. This will be even more so the case the following year when we seek to extend Andrew and Zach.

I guess you could argue that it gave us more flexibility this year even though we didnt take advantage of it, but my counter is that we could have structured the contracts to pay more in future years if we were running out of space this year. I guess Newton or whoever made the decision made a short sighted decision.

It accounts for less than 1% of the cap next year. It's not gonna make a difference.

Hopefully not, but you never know. Its a little more than 1% though. But its an extra 1.3 Mill we could offer Gorgui and its an extra 1.3 Mill we could offer Zach. If we are in a bidding war every million counts.

1% of 108-109 (next year's projected cap) is 1.8-1.9 last time I did math so it's less than 1%.

Actually the cap hit is $1,380,305 per year. Your math must be rusty. 1.38 > 1% of 108 or 109 which is 1.08 or 1.09.

My math is rusty. Doesn't change the fact that it's negligible especially when guys like Dieng and Bazz can be signed over the cap.

You are right about going over the cap to sign your own guys like Dieng or Zach, so perhaps it won't matter. I can sleep better now. LOL

I guess it probably won't make much difference but I didn't like it at the time.
