Flip didn't want McCollum he passed on him. Towns > porg. So I am not sure your point

I wanted McCollum badly and campaigned for him leading up to the draft. I preferred Wiggins to acquiring Klay, so we will have to see how that turns out. Wig has a ways to go before he can have the impact Klay has on the game.

You must be kidding. I was in favor of McCollum too, and was upset when they traded down, especially after they took Bazz with the initial pick. I liked the Gorgui pick up though. I was 100% for Wiggins and KAT over Klay and Zinger.

Flip really liked McCollum. He passed on him for two reasons. First, the Wolves doctors warned about Mac's foot problem, which turned out to be only a one year problem but according to the Wolves medical staff it's the sort of problem that can reoccur and end a career. Second, Flip wanted to make sure he was able to get Gorgui and he didn't think he'd last to #27. This info came straight from Flip. But Flip really liked Shabazz too. And honestly, I do also. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bazz really blossom under Thibs.
Regarding Klay, here's what Flip told me. In my lunch with Flip the before we drafted Zach I asked Flip if he thought it was likely we'd end up trading Love. He said he honestly wasn't sure. I asked him who he might look to get for Love and without hesitation he said, Klay Thompson. He also indicated that the had already talked to the Cavs who told him they wouldn't trade their pick for Love. I then said, would you try to get Klay and Barnes. He said, no. He then said, Klay and Green. In some emails with Flip he confirmed that he was negotiating with the Warriors for a package including Klay. But he didn't give me any more details.

What I remember is CJ was a guy a lot of posters really liked going into the draft they just weren't sure how high he should be drafted because there was uncertainty of what position he would be able to play. At the time the Wolves needed wing players badly taking a combo guard didn't make a whole lot of sense because they had a bunch of those guys on the roster. For example JJ had come off a pretty good first season with the Wolves.
It is a good point that Flip had Klay as a target for Love. He is a very good player he would look good in a Wolves uniform. For example tonight he wasn't really scoring but he had some terrific defensive moments. He didn't have to score to help his team.

If I can talk on Bloop's behalf, I think he's pointing other examples of Flip's successful scouting ability. The fact Flip also loved Porzingas doesn't mean that we wish he drafted him instead of KAT. Rather, it means that he displayed great player evaluation on a bunch of other players that we may not really give him credit for because we don't actually have them on the roster.
Of course, he didn't have a perfect record (Payne). But really displayed some great skill for talent evaluation.
Lip, do you have any further insight on this? Are there any other players around the league that Flip had identified to you as guys to keep an eye on?

Flip's stature as a POBO is growing in my opinion. There are still a few things that need to play out longer before giving him a final grade, but so far things are trending well.
As for his coaching.....not very good IMO.

.
I'm gonna put this here... just because...
I don't think the Thibodeau/Shabazz thing lasts long. But I'm more worried about the LaVine/Thibodeau relationship.
We all know LaVine has ridiculous promise. And... makes ridiculous plays. I don't think he's a smart player. And I think that's going to drive Thibodeau insane... quickly.
