Noah being offered $120M over 4 seasons.

Good luck with that. Things are only going to get crazier from there if that really happens.

[note: 2017 lockout looms. there's gonna be a lot of bitter players around the league... think about this... guys like curry and kemba walker will make about 40% of what noah will make. that should sit well with most guys... ahem.]

The economics are depressing. I'd love to have him, but how can we possibly justify that? We have to remain a non-tax team and a contract like that would eventually get us into that kind of trouble.

I don't want to pay Noah more than 10 Million. Noah is too old and unhealthy for my liking. Lets let the other teams blow their cap space and sign some relative bargains like Aldrich or conserve for next year when there will be a better class of free agents.

If WSH makes that move and resigns Beal, they won't have money left for anything else. So, sign Nene (decent year at the 4 and 5, at around $10m per), and maybe Alan Anderson (decent year at the 3 and a proven Downtown Minneapolis performer, at around $2m per) or Gary Neal (same money as Anderson).

.....or maybe have the capspace ready for when GSW tries to dump Bogut/Iggy to sign either Durant or someone else.

Woof. Welcome to the new economics.

28 million though? That's still almost 1/3 of the entire salary cap! That's insane. You can't do that except for guys like LeBron, Durant, etc. You'd kill your team.

And that would be my selling point to a guy like Noah. Sure, you can take $28 million and get knocked out of the first round in the East for the duration of your contract because your team won't have any money left. Or you can take less (ok, substantially less) and play for a coach you flourished under on an up-and-coming team you fit perfectly with. It might not work, but I'd give it a go (after looking into Horford and Deng a bit).

So the owners are going to lock out the players....because they are upset about how little Curry made on that contract he signed when his ankle was considered iffy?

So the players are going to lock themselves out...because the guys who could have taken shorter deals KNOWING that these two big jumps in the cap were coming instead took the guaranteed money when it was presented?

And Curry is upset...because the contract he signed is entering its final year and can go ahead and sign a Noah-or-Love-level (or better) contract on July 1st, 2017?

The cap is going to be $110m in '17/'18 if it's a dollar. The players are showing up on time and with clean urine. If the owner's lock them out, it won't be because of the reasons you stated. It will be fringe issues, like PED testing and maybe a disagreement about whether or not there should be something in place for concussions, whether it be testing and/or a straight expense account set up, but even that won't be a deal breaker in a non-collision sport.

Sure seems insane to give Noah max money. But so be it. The NBA still has a salary cap and highly punitive luxury tax that very few teams have been willing to exceed. If a team like Wasington chooses to give max money to a 31-year old specialist that's there prerogative. But it's not the path to championship contention. So I don't see what Washington has offered establishing the general NBA market or becoming standard practice.

And we have yet to see whether Noah will accept it rather than take significantly less to be part of the Wolves really high upside playing for a great head coach he knows and respects. He's already very wealthy and either way, he'll become much wealthier.

Well let's remember this money hasn't (and can't) even have been offered yet.

Absolutely correct. And not only that, he doesn't have the pressure to buy every relative a house because of his father's success, and probably has a decent inheritance coming someday.

He would be in the way way minority of players who except that much less money. It happens but very few and far between. I know this will upset people, but if I'm Noah and Deng, I'm not sure I want to sign with an "upcoming" team that isn't realistically ready to compete for a championship in 3-4 years.

Realistically the wolves need a couple years of being the 6-8th seed, having some success but taking their lumps at the same time. If I'm those two guys I'd much rather play for a title in my last couple years.
