Annual counting Ping Pong balls thread...

The Wolves are 19 - 32. We get to hope for more losses for at least one more year. Let's study our competition...

New Orleans - 19 - 32. Depends if they sit Anthony Davis at some point... or trade Jrue Holiday. Otherwise, I think the Pelicans make one final push and pull away from the Wolves.

Philadelphia - 18 - 33. Philadelphia is without Embiid for a bit here. I wouldn't be surprised if they sit him for good sooner than later. And I think Okafor gets moved. It's gonna be hard to end up worse than them.

Lakers - 17 - 36. The Lakers lose their pick if it's not in the top 4. So they will tank. They have to tank. Heck, they are tanking. The Wolves will not catch them.

Phoenix - 16 - 35. Booker is playing better. Bledsoe is good. But Chandler will either be moved... or sat with mysterious injury soon enough. The Wolves beating them on the last-second shot by Wiggins gave the Suns a 3 game head start. They probably won't lose it.

Brooklyn - 9 - 44. Bad. And tanking it would seem... see the Lin situation. But they don't get to keep their pick... I'm not entirely sure they realize it though. Wolves won't catch them obviously.

February 5 analysis:

The Wolves are looking at another top 5 pick! No team looks more promising than the Wolves! After all, every one of these players will improve significantly at the same time. The future is bright in Minnesota.

Asking permission to bump this thread after the Wolves sweep their next 4 games. Granted?

Of course.

They're still looking at ping pong balls either way.

[Note: In 28 years of Wolves fandom... choosing the pessimistic take has only been proven wrong three times. In 1991, the 2nd year Wolves won 29 games. It rewarded the coach by firing him for winning too much. (Did Mussellman put a curse on the team?) In 2004, the Wolves landed a #1 seed and made the WCF. Last season, they won 29 (+13) games with a young team after the death of its coach. And KAT was better than expected. The smart money is on predicting calamity and then watching it happen.]

I think it's a mistake to hope for losses anymore just because we likely won't make the playoffs. This team doesn't need yet another young player and a lottery pick will do just fine in any trade we may wish to make.

While I agree with you 100%... that would take away from the facetious/satirical angle of my thread.

Yup, pretty disappointing to go from the frothy expectations set in the offseason to where we are today. We're barely keeping pace with our record for last season.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm disillusioned by lottery picks at this point. I'm tired of them. Hell, look at the lotto picks from this past draft. How many of them are on court pluses? We're still talking about how young and inexperienced and patient we need to be with guys like Wiggins and LaVine and they are in their 3rd year!

Just Say No to more lottery picks! Trade the damn thing!

Yeah, that's exactly where I am, Q...just not interested in another lottery pick that isn't ready to contribute. We need to win now! I was an advocate of trading last year's pick, and I'm an advocate of trading this year's.

Well those lottery picks are why there is any optimism about this team going forward. This team will have a bunch of cap space this offseason if you want to get some vet players. If there is a good player there to pick they should pick them. It makes even more sense when next year they actually have their own d-league team where they can develop their guy for a stretch instead of it just being someplace for the guy to go play games. There could be a trade that makes sense but trading away picks because they won't make enough difference now is not what I want to see.
