Is this trade ridiculous?

Was just reading that the Jazz are finding it difficult to play the combo of Favors-Gobert. Would a Favors for Dieng swap make sense for both teams? We need a more rugged player, which we get in Favors. Utah needs an appropriate big to play with Gobert that can step outside and make a mid range jumper. Sounds like a good fit for Dieng.
But what has happened to Favors? He is playing fewer minutes and stats have taken a real hit. I haven't seen the Jazz play this season....any thoughts? On the exterior, he seems like an ideal player to pair with Towns long term. But I am curious about his dropoff this year.

It is not ridiculous but I would wait on that. The Jazz will have one of the most interesting offseasons this year with George Hill (who has been great) and Hayward being a free agent so they might lose them both and the Jazz might want to go into re-built mode. So a first and pieces could get it done during the the draft to get Favors.
I love Favors the player but he has been hurt a lot lately and it is a big difference compared to Dieng who like never misses time. So I would not do that deal even though I think Favors is the better player just don't think it is a needle mover where he could be on the trade block in the offseason.

This was not even a debate prior to this season. I guess the only way I still see it as a debate is that the Wolves only get Favors for the end of the season. If he's willing to resign in MN... yep. Do it. Now.
Because without the impending free agency, I think all 30 GMs choose Favors.

Favors is signed through next season.
Then we are having to worry about paying him, Wiggins, and LaVine huge money at the same time. That puts me off a bit.

Wait.....Favors is only 25 years old!? That's insane. It feels like he was drafted such a long time ago.
I sometimes wonder if we are chasing ghosts when it comes to upgrading Dieng. I like Favors, but his presence doesn't seem to impact Utah much one way or the other.

I think he was young like Tyus when he was drafted.
After this deal it makes sense but I would imagine if the Jazz were at all interested the Wolves would have to sweeten the deal and I don't know what the Jazz would want and because of unknowns about their roster they may not know either. I would imagine one of the reasons why Favors isn't playing as many minutes is that teams go small and the Jazz do have other options in Diaw Lyles and maybe Hayward playing PF next to Gobert.
A couple concerns for the Wolves with Favors. He has missed a few games every year of his career so that's at least a bit of a concern. Then you have money. Dieng is locked in with his extension starting next year and it's under what the market was and probably will be this next offseason as well. There is no guarantee that Favors isn't going to ask for a bunch more money.
Q your comment about chasing ghosts upgrading Dieng it's something to consider. He is proving that midrange long 2 shot is not a fluke. He does the dirty work plays hard doesn't complain about not getting shots and is willing to compliment guys. The really good teams have guys like Dieng that do their job and can do a little bit of everything. I am not suggesting Dieng is u toucahable but I think the Wolves should look to upgrade that position while keeping Dieng here. FA and the draft are both worthwhile options. Last night's game from Belly shows glimpses of how he could be part of the puzzle for this team as well. I think we need to keep building and remember Thibs and Layden haven't even Ben on the job for a year yet.

If you can do this deal straight up you do it. Favors may be struggling, but he's next to the stiffle tower who plays in the same space he does. Towns does not play in that space and Favors is much more well equipped to bang on the inside with opposing bigs than Dieng and Towns. Favors isn't a good fit next to a Gobert, but I think he fits great next to Towns and covers for Towns weaknesses right now as a big body who rebounds, defends and can handle the workload in the paint against bigger guys. I think Favors is a starting caliber 4/5 combo big. I think Dieng can start but is best as the 4/5 combo big off the bench. I think that deal would be a win for both teams slightly favoring us.

Favors is a better fit on this team and if he's willing to resign for a similar deal to Dieng then this is a no brainer for me.

I agree, but I'm fairly certain he will command quite a bit more.
