LaVine ranks 437th out of 441 NBA players in Defensive RPM. Wiggins is 412th.

While Thibs was not my choice for coach, I at least thought he'd help Wiggins and LaVine become vastly improved defenders. But that hasn't happened? Who's to blame?

How about nobody? They're 21 on their 3rd coach in 3 years. This shit just doesn't happen overnight. Does getting Thibs automatically make them 4 years older and 20lbs heavier? Defense typically takes the longest to develop at the NBA level.

Sure. Makes sense. And there's a lot of truth in there.

BUT... if we really believe these guys are elite-level players, we need to ramp up the expectations just a bit. Eventually. There are other young players in the league. Many don't have 3 years of experience... heck, Wiggins is among the league leaders in minutes played over the past 3 seasons.

They don't have to be good. Or even average. They simply have to show improvement.

[Note: The caveat is that I really don't care for that stat and don't know exactly how it's even measured, so I don't know how much merit the rankings have.]

All you need to know is that Pachulia, norguera, deadmon all rank higher in RPM than Towns. (Towns is the 15th best center, I realize that DRPM is different than RPM)

It makes sense that some of our guys are going to be at the bottom end of that metric when we as a team are at the bottom end defensively! We may not like what it says, but there is some amount of truth in it.

Well those guys have played a ton of minutes for a team that's been a top 10 in defensive efficiency for a 20+ game stretch so they much be doing something right. If we are 30 game into next year and we haven't seen some legit improvement I'll be a lot more concerned. Again if Bazz can learn to play D...
