I got a chuckle out of this. One of my friends always posted the wrong picture of someone famous when they die and people are always telling him it's the wrong person and it's funny. I have a friend that really looks a lot like Gary Shandling

Worked with a guy who was a college station DJ back in the day. His listening audience was tiny in some small MN town. Anyway, he'd say "Here's another classic from Aerosmith" and then put in something like The Ramones.
Then, he'd take the calls on the air when people corrected him. He'd say "Sorry, sorry. My mistake. Here's Aerosmith!" And then he'd play REM. Rinse. Repeat.
He was shocked how often he could pull the same gimmick off.

I don't listen to KFAN much anymore, but Common Man always used to do similar bit. He'd get a name wrong or something else obviously incorrect and wait for listeners to call in or email to tell him how dumb he is. It can be funny in small bites. But I could never make it through a full hour of that type of stuff.

As good as "Larry Sanders" was, his sitcom on Fox was better. He didn't just knock down the "4th wall", he took a wrecking ball to it, poking fun at the production values, direction, etc. Just absolutely groundbreaking and hilarious.
There was even an episode featuring Kurt Rambis (true story) that actually made him look like he knew what he was doing.
This was opening song:
