Payne Trade Rumors

"There are some teams, the Spurs, I hear the Clippers, the Thunder, there are some teams with fringe trade interest in Adreian Payne," said Wolfson on The Scoop podcast, "but I'm not quite sure I see a trade happening before the deadline in a couple weeks but maybe something to watch come this summer."

Would like to trade Payne for Payne, but I don't think OKC will bite on that one. How about Payne for Anthony Morrow? or Ray McCallum, Patty Mills, Simmons or Spurs 1st?

I have a really hard time anyone would be willing to trade any of the assets you mention above for Payne. Patty Mills!? Are you kidding me!?

I don't know what we could get for Payne. All Doogie says is there is some fringe interest in Payne. I don't think we should just give him away. Maybe Patty Mills is wishful thinking, but the Spurs would have to move someone if they wanted Payne. If all Payne could fetch is a middle or late 2nd rounder, I'd just as soon keep him.

I know you wouldn't be alone, but if we had a smart organization we could buy one of those. However, given how cheap Payne's contract is, I'd rather see how Payne plays under a new coach before giving up on him.

I'd say fringe interest (if this is even legit) is some random 2nd rounder since they are from playoff teams you might as well keep him for that price. Also if these teams really do actually have interest then maybe you should hold onto him. I LOVE drafting guys but this team is already damn young and is likely to get even younger next year. Keeping Payne who will be a 3rd year pro may make more sense than drafting a long shot with a 2nd rounder although the 2nd rounder could be for a future year obviously. I don't think Payne has a high ceiling at all but I see a guy that could be a useful player for a number of years and never get all that great but the good thing about that is he remains cheap.

Bottom line is I'll tell you we can have a very long pretty athletic PF/C that can shoot 3's and is cheap and at this point costs very little. Isn't that the type of cheap fairly young low cost guy you would want? Maybe that's why some teams have called.

You could use that 2nd round pick on a Euro player to stash. Or use that 2nd rounder on a player that has just as good of a chance as Payne has at being a worthy NBA player. That bar isn't set very high, though.
