Let's evaluate how it looks almost 2 years later compared to other options. I'm going to provide three options and describe the ground rules in my next post. Select the answer that reflects best how you rank the value of these three deals.

OK...here are the assumptions and rules:
1) Assume Love would have been happy with a 5-year deal and not demanded to be traded
2) Wiggins deal is as it actually happened
3) Assume GS was willing to trade us Thompson and Lee for Love and Martin (I never found out for sure what GS's best offer was)
4) Assume we concurrently signed Klay to a 5-year deal with the trade
5) You're allowed to make assumptions about how our drafts would have gone in each scenario, but not assume free agent acquisitions that didn't actually happen.
Confused? I thought so. But try to rank the 3 options in terms of which would have been best for this franchise. I'll vote later.

I couldn't be more happy with how things turned out. Go Wolves. I always thought Love was a really good player but had a hard time cheering for him with all his warts. Wiggins is the opposite to me and continues to blow my mind with his athleticism and improvement so far. Thompson is better than Love but honestly he can stay out in California. The guy seems like a douchebag.

Anything specific? I just haven't seen that written about Thompson often, so I'm just curious if there's something more than meets the eye with him.

Mostly his penchant for "dating" internet celebrities and then having public social media spats with them. It is understandable given the fame and all that. But his choice in females make me question if there is much substance there. I get the sense that the reason he was really devastated about the Minny trade rumors was the diminished access to booty calls.

Oh. Yeah, I don't know much about his dating life. But if he's like most pro athletes... I wouldn't be surprised if (1) he's highly arrogant and (2) without much substance outside the relevancy of his place in his profession. It's not like these guys are delving deep into other issues. They have and will spend an inordinate amount of time on their craft and very little else (sans the occasional internet celebrity or three).

Yeah I agree that is the reality, and we probably shouldn't expect much more than their behavior on the court and as teammates. On the flip side, so far we seem pretty spoiled with Towns and Wiggins (even Lavine with the Charity stuff this year) in terms of wholesome personalities. You never know how fame will affect the guys but Towns seems insanely together. He wants to go back to medical school after basketball. Awesome.

I read an article about Jalyen Brown. He certainly has teh personality to fit with this group. Picked a school based on academics and really seem to have more than basketball to focus on.

I vote Wig, Thompson, sign Love.
Reasoning being that was what got us KAT. If they signed Love or traded for Thompson KAT would likely be playing elsewhere as those two would likely have added a few wins two years ago.

To be fair, I chuckle when I see that stuff. It's a nice sound bite, but so far removed from reality that it comes off as disingenuous at times...
I do dig what we see from Towns in interviews. I have no idea about the off-courts endeavors/antics of any of these guys.
As for Thompson, the guy seems pretty calm and down-to-earth (relatively speaking) in interviews. Was the dating stuff just from the chick or was he on it with a bunch of name-calling types of responses? Just checked him on Twitter. It seems very tame and he's not very active (it even includes a Flip tribute). Have you seen some of the stuff other players put out there?
