Re: NBA Post-Up Game to Bring You Its Rebirth
Is there any good post scorers in this draft that Flip could target?
I like the fact that the Wolves have two wings that are able to operate in the post with Wiggins and Bazz. These are the type of guys that can create separation late in a game and especially in a playoff game. As far as sure things go, we know that the ball can be thrown into Okafor and he will often score. That's very valuable.
I'm still wishy washy on this pick.

I love that part of Wiggins and Shabazz's game. I think both will be solid 3pt shooters to boot. They are very easy to build around.

That's a big part of that article. You don't need a post presence every time down the court. But you need a guy like Draymond Green who CAN play in the post and be a threat there to open up other things... especially on switches on the perimeter.

You bring up a great point Abe. Having players who can stretch the court, post and arc are so important in today's NBA. Pek is almost too stationary now to be truly effective unless he is on the ideal team, and by the way Flip has been directing the ship, he wants two way players. I know most like Okafor, but I feel towns length, ability to step out and post up is too valuable in this Stretch Style Presence that is being played now.

Right and I think the Wolves have 2 of those types. So the question becomes does Okafor need the ball all the time to be effective? If he always needs the ball it negates those 2 versatile guys

He had a higher offensive rebounding rate than Towns so something tells me he doesn't need the ball everytime down the court. He's big so he can be a good screen setter which opens up the guard/wing to do more themselves off the pick. There seems to be this misconception that he needs the ball all the time to be effective. He had a 27% usage rate which is right in line with some of the top players in the NBA. So he warranted the same usage as normal NBA star players. Given his offensive prowess that makes sense and it's still less than a 1/3rd of his team's possessions. People need to stop with the idea that he needs the ball all the time when there is no evidence to back that up.

Can't speak for others. But without the ball, can Okafor create enough spacing for others? Can he put his imprint on the game defensively?
Not saying he can't... just asking you what you think about it.

A majority of Centers in the league can't create real spacing so I don't think it is a problem with Okafor. If anything it is better to have a big by the hoop for a drop off pass in my opinion than someone sitting out on the perimeter or free throw line. That way the guy penetrating will either be able to score himself or drop off the pass when Okafor's man helps to stop the initial shot. Look at the 4 teams left. Horford is the only one who stretched the floor. Otherwise Mozgov, Bogut and Howard have no midrange games and they did fine.
I think defensively with the depth we have he can be allowed to play defense more aggressively. He clearly avoided fouls at Duke, but I'd teach him how to dish out some punishment at the rim on occasion to put in the back of the drivers minds. Lots of big and slow guys have learned to play effective defense without fouling out as well. People on the board talk up Pek's defense and Okafor is a longer Pek so I think he can be an upgrade on both sides of the ball to Pek and people thought pretty highly of Pek when he's healthy as a top 10 center at worst.

Re: NBA Post-Up Game to Bring You Its Rebirth
Okafor's been avoiding fouls or avoiding defense? This is just an excuse for bad defensive effort. I used to agree with that idea when I watched Love play in Minnesota, but in reality, it all comes down to the player's attitude. Neither one of those guys cared about stopping the opposition.
