Knicks/Nuggets -- Shump/Faried

Apparently trade talks are becoming more intense between these two teams. Iman Shumpert for Kenneth Faried is the rumored deal. Why would the Nuggets do this? I don't understand it, honestly. Faried may not fit Brian Shaw's sytem, but he's a main piece on the team. Think it'd be a dumb trade for Denver and an absolute STEAL for the Knicks. Hardaway Jr would fit Shump's role and they'd add a serious player to help that frontcourt. Denver needs to just chill out and wait for Gallo and Chandler to get healthy. Big mistake if they make this deal.
Let me bring this back around to a Timberwolves fan view. Would the Knicks be interested in D-Will? What do they have that we'd be interested in? Probably don't have enough assets for Shumpert, but I brought up J.R. Smith's name in a different thread. What about Metta? He's played surprisingly well thus far. 26 MPG: 11.5 PPG, 4 RPG, 46% FG and 38% 3pt. Don't know exactly what I'd offer for any three of these guys, but just some quick thoughts.
Also, if the Nuggets do trade Faried away, would that open the door for a D-Will+ package for Wilson Chandler deal? They'd have Gallo/Shump/Fournier/Chandler all on the wings. Landing Shump would make Chandler expendable, in my opinion. Something Flip should keep an eye on.
