Corey Brewer Wingspan-Gate
Yes, the controversy about Corey's length continues, with the flames being fanned today by none other than our intrepid reporter Jerry Zgoda. In his article in this morning's StarTrib, Jerry says about Corey "He used his determination and long arms against Durant all night..." But wait, Lipoli has told us repeatedly that Corey has unusually short arms, but Zgoda is saying the opposite. Is there bad blood between Zgoda and Lipoli? Is Jerry trying to intentionally antagonize our stellar board contributor?
I couldn't let this controversy simmer out there, so I set out to do my own research. I went to draftexpress.com and compared Corey's length data to another seemingly average 6'8" forward, Dante Cunningham. Here are the results:
Wingspan Standing reach
Corey 6'8 1/4" 8'7"
Dante 6'11" 8'10.5"
There you have it. Dante does not appear to be a freak of nature, but his wingspan exceeds Corey's by 2 3/4 ", and his standing reach is greater by 3 1/2". These differences are not insignificant. The only conclusion is that Corey does indeed have short arms. Tally: Lipoli 1, Zgoda 0!
All kidding aside, this further demonstrates the value of this board. Sometimes we like to quote Zgoda or some other pundit, but the truth is there is generally more wisdom on this board than in Jerry's column. Keep up the great work, guys!
P.S. I am a great admirer of Corey's, and respect how he overcomes his physical shortcomings with relentless determination to become a solid defender.

Yeah, this board actually is pretty on point with the majority of stuff that gets posted. Funny how nobody knows about it, though! Lol

Draftexpress has been publishing combine results for years and has an extremely detailed database. Lip was talking about Brewer's short reach from the day we first drafted him. The Draftexpress database isn't a secret unique to Lipoli and it isn't a secret among those who follow the NBA closely, especially the draft. It's a couple clicks away. What's more amazing is Zgoda's laziness in not even bothering to research this and instead propagating the old wives tale that Brewer is somehow a long player.

Yep, as far as beat writers in Minneapolis go, the Wolves got the short end of the stick...I actually think there is some talent covering the Twins and Vikings. Again, nice to have this board. Zgoda would never put in the effort to research and provide the Efg% you give us, q.

Nobody knows more about overhead reach than Lip. I wouldn't be surprised if he knew the overhead reach of those of us who post here.

LOL....how surprising would that be, if Lip started to posting overhead reach and arm length for each of the posters here.

A more telling stat would be the IQ's of some of us.

Remarkably, my IQ and wingspan are exactly the same...that's all I'm saying.
