Trade Barea, Free Shved

1) Trade Barea
2) Sit Alexey down and say "Son, you're our backup point guard now, be prepared to play around 15 minutes a game and run the second team. Do what you do best: handle the ball and create for others."
This is what I'm attempting to do if I'm Flip. I don't like Barea's role on this team, and even worse is watching Alexey try and play off guard.
Even if you get virtually nothing in return for Barea (maybe a guy who wouldn't play but is on a one year deal), I think the move could be addition by subtraction. Of course Shved could fail badly, but at this point I would roll the dice.

I will never understand why JJ is the primary ballhandler when they're both on the floor together

Seniority?
I dislike JJ as our backup PG. But I think I have even less confidence in Shved to run our offense...

JJ is a horrible fit here. He doesn't play well with 1st team and doesn't play off the play on the second team. It is to bad we couldn't have trade him instead of Ridnour.

I said the same. Lol I was saying it during the off-season when we needed to trade one of them to get another wing in here. Many people preferred Barea due to his spark off the bench, his experience in the playoffs and all that. Here I was just wanting a guy that could run an offensive unit. Silly me.

I am sure Ridnour was the only option. His was in the last year of his contract and the organization was familiar with him. I liked that he played within the offense and could play both guard positions. Perfect backup.
Could have we kept Ridnour and signed Martin if we didn't resign Budinger?
It seems the price for backup PG's is less then 3M a year. Kahn felt he had to give more which I am fine with, but he also felt he need to make the contracts longer then needed to. I am not sure why more GM's are not thinking overpay up front if they can.

I heard Peterson or even Saunders or somebody say that Shved still hasn't shed the Russian style of play. He overdribbles and isn't great moving the ball. He's deliberate in running the point to the point of stagnation.
Face it... PG... SG... end of bench guy... Shved is a fringe NBA player who has not justified his contract... or even a roster spot at this stage in his career.

Abe, I actually think point of stagnation is what we need more then trying to make something and causing fast breaks. I would rather overdribble and take a shot with 20 or more seconds on the clock then rushing to try and create something and miss with 10 second on the clock. Sad state, but I think the bench should be stalling on the court. Call it the prevent offense.

Bring in Dean Smith, run the 4 corners? You're right. Some games that might be a wiser strategy.

I like the idea although I'm not sure anyone would want to trade for JJ. When Shved started last year while Rubio was out I thought he was adequate. If I remember correctly he was getting 6 or 7 assists per game as a starter, nothing special but it seems ok as a backup.
