The Anti-Rubio

Post by Lipoli390 »

I'm watching the Warrior-Pistons game right now. I'd bet that, if Brandon Jennings has a dictionary in his home, it's missing the page that contains the word "pass." You'd think he gets paid by the dribble. I've never seen anyone over-dribble as much as he does and I've been watching Barea for two years. You have to feel bad for his teammates. They are moving well without the ball, cutting repeatedly but never getting the ball as Jennings dribbles relentlessly and aimlessly before finally putting up one terrible shot after another or making a horrible pass to a teammate in a bad spot for a shot with just seconds left on the shot clock. It's the antithesis of Ricky and it has to be demoralizing to his teammates. It's a reminder of why players really like playing with Ricky.

I'm trying to get a good look at KCP, but Jennings is making that really difficult. KCP finally got a bucket off his own steal. Pretty much the only way he has an opportunity to score playing with Brandon the Ball Hog Jennings.

I remember when people got excited about the Pistons pre-season because they got Josh Smith and Jennings. I relentlessly tried to explain to them how much of a chucker Jennings is and how Smith's inability to knock down jumpshots or cut would ruin their floor spacing. Bingo and bingo. Right on both. They have playmakers, but not nearly enough shooters or ball distribution (Jennings' fault).

Watching KCP too. Not really impressed with his season to this point (small sample size), but I liked how he jumped the pass lane for a steal and flush. Saw that a bunch at Georgia. Florida fan so I end up watching a bunch of SEC ball regardless of it's basketball or football. KCP still can't handle the ball. Takes three or four dribbles and has to pass the rock. I remember "analysts" questioned Dipo's handles like they did KCP's. Guess who put in the work and looks fine in that area? If you said Victor, you'd be correct.

Cam --

I had the same view as you about the Jennings and Smith signings. I thought Greg Anthony nailed it tonight when he referred to both guys as players who have the mentality of #1 scoring options but not the talent.

I'm not surprised by Oladipo's progress and play. Flip and I both had him at or near the top of our draft boards. I still think KCP will be very good. But he's not as good as Dipo and will take longer to develop. I would add that I always thought Oladipo's ball handing in college was better than a number of pundits suggested. At the same time, I think KCP's ballhandling wasbad

I can't imagine why anyone would want 1 of those players on a team, let alone both of them. By picking both of them up, it looks like Detroit as just tossed in the towel for the next 3 years.

Ironic... considering how Jennings and Rubio played in Europe and Jennings took "shots" at Rubio pre-draft.
