Brewer Trade

Stein just posted to twitter that we are in discussions with the Cavs and Rockets regarding a potential trade for Brewer. I wonder what we'd get because it would have to be a swap I assume given their cap situations. Do they have any trade exceptions that could eat his salary straight up for picks? Waiters, Terrance Jones? I am curious to see who Flip is looking to get back.

Edit: Right after I posted Lowe and Stein tweeted they both have exceptions big enough to eat his salary. Not a fan of dealing him for a late first rounder or more likely second round picks. I'd do that for Martin or Bud, but not Brewer.

I'd love to scam Cleveland and take back Waiters somehow. He'd start here and add scoring and handling to our bunch.

Khans, did you see something specific about the fact that we are in talks with the Cavs and Rockets? I saw that ESPN sources said the wolves were in active discussions about Corey, but didn't specify teams. Then Stein and Lowe mentioned Cleveland and Houston, but only to mention that they had trade exceptions that would allow them to acquire Brewer for just picks. Sounds like the Wolves are shopping Brewer, and some pundits are assuming he will only bring the Wolves picks back, so they are suggesting these two teams. I don't know...Corey has been our best player with Ricky and Thad out, and he seems too valuable to give up just for a late first round pick. Corey would be a great reserve for a contender, and Flip has to think he can something back in return.

Edit: Ignore my question, khans...I now see a updated tweet from Stein that says we are in talks with the Cavs and Rockets

We need a point guard.....badly. This would free up a roster spot. My guess is that this experiment with LaVine starting may come to an end soon.

I love Brewer for his energy and effort. We'll miss it. What I won't miss are all of the gambles he takes that leads to wide open looks for the opposing team. Unlike Budinger, Brew still has some value around the league.

Brew is one of my favorites, we better get something in return. We don't need a point guard in my opinion. Ricky isn't going to be out forever, don't give up an asset like Brewer for 6 weeks of backup point guard play.

I agree with Q on this one. Assuming we get decent value in return, it would make sense. Wiggins should get the bulk of the minutes at SF, so Brewer's role would be reduced quite a bit this year. Like Q, I tip my hat to Brewer as a likable guy and full effort player. But he's not going to be part of the future here, so if another team has a need for a good role player - do the deal. Maybe we get a PG and a draft pick back which would allow us to try LaVine at SG.

But how much is that point guard going to matter in 6 weeks?

This season is spinning out do control but man I really don't like seeing Brewer moving. I want to see us get something worthwhile back for him if he get moved. In all seriousness though anyone that can play PG or is 6'9 or taller could be handy. If Flip could get a protected 1st for Brewer that would be pretty good. Brewer woudl fit in with the Cavs or probably the Rockets well.

I like Brewer a lot but if we get a late first round pick for him I would do it, he has an opt out at the end of the year and Brewer might decide to use that. Brewer has been good on the road trip, but this would open up minutes for Shabazz and possibly GR3.
I don't think the rockets can trade there first for Brewer (going to the lakers). I was looking at there roster and the only cheap guy I would be interested in that would be realistic is Troy Daniels. Then I look at the Cavs roster the only players I would be interested in are Harris and Delledova

A third PG on this team makes more sense than a seventh wing IMO. I don't know if Rubio will be back in 6 weeks. But even if he is, certainly he or Mo could go down again.

When we let JJ walk, it was proclaimed that this year was about young guys. Bazz and even GR3 can play some more minutes if Brewer goes. And IMO LaVine would have a better chance at success playing SG than PG - at least for his 1st year.
