McHale on Wolves

This on HoopsHype, McHale Talking to Boston Herald:
It's interesting to note that things might have been different with Love and his desire to stay in Minnesota had not the Wolves dealt away another very good big man in July 2010. McHale was gone before that happened. "The year I was let go, I said to the owner, 'If you keep Kevin Love and Al (Jefferson) together, you'll have a really good (No.) 4 and 5,' " he said. "And last year I think one was second-team All-Pro (Love) and one was third-team All-Pro (Jefferson), so you could have had two really good building blocks there. "I thought they had a chance, if they kept them together, to be really good. But then they changed management, and Al gets traded for a loaf of bread and a bunch of other stuff (to Utah for Kosta Koufos and two picks), so none of that got to happen. The whole key was building around those two guys. If you have two of the top 15 players in the league, you have a chance to be a pretty good team." This is why McHale stunk as GM. Correct me if I am wrong, I remember Al being a lousy passer who looked to score the ball himself. Don't recall how he was defensively. Al and Love were not on the floor together when they were both here, because they did not compliment each other.

I didn't think we should have given Al away. Due t injuries and bad coaching we never got to see Love and a healthy Al work together for any long stretchs.

Seems like he is a lot smarter than Kahn. McHale would have had Al, Love and Pek all at the same time. That doesn't seem to stupid to me even if they wouldn't have been good defensively. Or would you rather have given away Al for what ended up being almost nothing and have Ryan Hollins, Darko and AR? Yeah I'd have a hard time not saying something on that if I was McHale especially with Love now gone too.

That's not the point, McHale was one of the worst GM's in history. See the irony here?

Yeah, McHale has made for a much better coach than GM.

The problem isn't having an embarrassment of riches. It's having an unbalanced team. While we kept stockpiling 4's, our wing situation was dreadful and it led to us having to give away a talent like Big Al for cheap because other teams knew we weren't gonna be able to have Love and Al coexist. Kevin McHale was ready to live or die with a faulty front court and Randy Foye.
I'm convinced that no matter what happens, this team will always stumble upon a good PF. We just don't have anyone in the organization that feels that way

Really my point is that I think McHale at the very least has a legit reason to say what he in what was posted. Its hard not to argue the Wolves would have been better off with Al and Love than Al and the garbage that Kahn brought in whether is was bigs or wings. Love is gone now and Flip is totally in charge so McHale probably feels like its time he can say something if prompted. Thats all.

I agree with you completely, Monster! And compared to David Kahn, McHale looks like a Hall of Fame GM.
