Robson on the Rubio injury

I'm well into the Rubio grieving process, so this article made me more optimistic than unhappy...and makes me happy that we have this guy signed for four more years after this one. We have documented Rubio's on/off court stats in the past, and they are excellent. But his on/off stats in the first five games this year were absurd...his combination of superior offense and defense made the Wolves 27.3 points better when he was on the court. It's a huge loss for the team this year, to be sure, and you don't lose a guy that is so clearly your best player and expect to win ballgames. But as I said, I've had a few days to mourn the injury, and have moved on to long-term optimistic takes. Ricky is only 24, already has an enormously positive impact on his team, and is clearly getting better...and we have him for at least another five years, along with some other high-ceiling young talent. This article actually cheered me up.

Not many journalists like Robson around. He actually uses vocabulary that rises above a 5th grade level.
Good article and Robson is absolutely right about the awful timing. I'm still in mourning, and unfortunately, I think the team is too. The air was let out of the Wolves the second he crumpled to the ground. I think we are going to be in for a long, tough stretch.

Great, another cripple on the team.

Is there something I haven't heard here? I mean sprained ankles shouldn't keep you out longer than 6 weeks. It's not the worst thing that's happened to this franchise.

Yeah, that's why I saw the article as positive, because I was not aware of Rubio's astonishing on/off stats this year. He'll be back by the end of the year, and this club will be pretty good.

I am thinking 2 months. A high ankle sprain with possible ligament damage is a serious injury - not an ACL, but not just a pulled muscle either. We will know if there is ligament damage in about 10 days, is what I hear.
I remember when Troy Hudson had a high ankle sprain, someone on the team said he would have healed faster if he had just flat out broken his ankle.

I always chose to view items in a positive manner. And I'll say this.....now is a good time to lose Ricky (IMHO).
It's still early in the season that Ricky (from mid Jan) can still have a greater impact at the tail end of the season. It doesn't matter who starts a game, it's who finishes it that counts. Likewise, if we finish the season stronger (presumely with Ricky at the helm), we will be better off (ie. knee injury just killed our late season momentum a couple of years ago).
And to be honest, it give Ricky another month "off" to be that much fresher for the playoff drive (think Adrian Peterson Vikings fans...LOL).
But we can not discount the fact that it gives Lavine a great opportunity to jell with the starters and playing time with Wiggins. Think of this if it was late in the season; Lavine has avg like 5 min per game and now thrusted into the starters roll----the significant and magnitude of EACH game at the tail end of the season is so much more then it is now. Not saying that Lavine can't handle it----just better now then later.
And, not to jinx our team. But, if the injury is a lot worst then expect (ie. Pat Willis is out for the year with a frigging toe injury). Then we might just forgo this season and just let the rookies develop. I hate to hear that development word too....

Nobody thought this team would even make the playoffs (save for just a few of us here), so this doesn't upset me too much. If I continue to see development from Wiggy, AB, Bazz, and Lavine, then I'm confident we'll be able to whether future injuries.
Flip should keep starting Zach, give Bazz and AB at least 20 minutes a game, and then I'll be happy win or lose.

Also, is Mo only signed for this year or for 2 years?

I am with you. Do we know the on/off stats for other players? it would be nice to see the context of that. What is Young's is 35 or peks is 25. That would make the meaning of Rubio's 27.x more meaningful.
