NBA and George's Injury

I read in an article that there is increased scrutiny regarding the distance to the BB stanchion due to George's injury. I almost laughed when I read that. How many players have been injured over the last decade or so due to camera men and fans lining the baseline? If the NBA truly cared, they would clear that landing area out completely.
Such a tragedy to see a guy starting the prime of his career suffer such a needless injury. Hopefully he can come back. I think it is lucky that it occurred where it did, rather than up around the knee like what happened to Livingston. Early reports are saying he fractured the tibia/fibula, but didn't mention any significant ligament damage. Expected to miss the season though.

Hoping Paul George makes a full recovery and comes back better than ever!

Pacers got some good news: surgery on Paul George's leg revealed no ancillary damage and that will greatly help recovery, source said
If they were speculating 9-12 months, hopefully this means it'll be on the shorter side of that if not faster.

Horrible news.
If I am an NBA owner of these guaranteed contracts I would want an opt out for injury caused during international competition. I wouldn't want the injury effecting my team and cap for years to come.
My thoughts are players should be limited to 4 year commitments. I wonder how a team of D-Leaguers and College players would compete. Would they be able to compete with more practice and training time? Would we still be able to attract a coach of Coach K's level?

I disagree. We should be moving toward being more serious about these international tournaments not finding ways to get out of guys playing in them. What's the increased percentage of guys getting hurt over them doing their usual offseason activities? Are you going to ban them from playing pickup games at UCLA or whatever and participating in a Pro Am event? These guys are basketball players.

Agreed. Avoiding international play isn't the answer. It was a freak accident involving conditions the NBA doesn't normally allow. The stanchions were too close to the court which is why the NBA said they would not have anymore events there previously. I'm not sure how this event didn't fall under that. It never should have been played there.

This won't only affect Team USA. Rubio wouldn't be playing with Spain. Parker with France. No Gasol Brothers. Even Shved would likely be out.
If I am a team owner I wouldn't want my players playing International ball after 4 years. It is not helping my team or the players brand at that point.
It is no different then what you see in most industry's.

NBA players have played thousands of minutes of international basketball, and I can't recall any other instances of serious injuries. As others have pointed out, the chance of injury from just scrimmaging in the offseason is likely as high as competing in international play. Heck, Kevin Love missed most of a season because he did knuckle push ups (or more likely, punched a wall). I think Zach LaVine is more likely to get seriously injured playing around with his showboat dunks than Ricky Rubio is in this tournament. I want our best players playing in the Olympics and other international tournaments.

I want our players preparing for NBA season. Who wouldn't want Rubio working on his shot vs playing International ball? Also it is pretty much a given that International players tend to wear down more during the NBA season. I wouldn't be surprised if Lebron played his last Team USA game at this point.

I think they'll always play in the Olympics, but I think the off-year tournaments just took a big blow with the George injury.
