Jordan Schafer tribute Thread

The Twins love finding these speedy 4th-ish outfielder types and then a few months later move on one way or another. I was a little surprised they moved on from Schafer but maybe they are ready to give younger guys a chance.

I liked him too, monster, and was sad to see him go. He's a great redemption story...a history of drug issues, both performance-related and recreational, that kept him from reaching the potential many thought he had when he was drafted. When he got his head screwed on right last year, he looked like a guy who could hit close to .300, steal a lot of bases, and play good defense. But then he got hurt, and Rosario established himself as a starting outfielder and Buxton came up earlier than expected. Meanwhile Max Kepler will be up within a year and Shane Robinson has proven to be a good replacement for Jordan. There just wasn't room for him in the outfield.

I figured he would regress back to the mean but he was at least a legit base stealer. You are right though circstances meant the Twins didn't really have a reason to give him more of a chance to come back which shouldn't be that surprising with the amount of outfield depth in the organization. His other problem was he had a high strikeout rate and that's not good for a guy with so little power. Sugar Shane puts the ball in play a lot more and that's why I liked Sam Fuld the guy hardly strikes out. With so many strikeout guys on the Twins it's nice to have guys that at least make contact. It's another reason why I liked the Kurt Suzuki signing and why I think he is just fine for now (like there are much better options anywhere because there really isn't) he puts the ball in play.
