6th man of the year

There was a discussion on NBA Radio today about contenders for 6th Man of the Year. Rick Kamla (who I still think is kind of a bozo) liked Tim Hardaway Jr. and Malik Monk, but Antonio Daniels said he was tripping...he said that right now Naz Reid is 6th Man of the Year, and nobody is even close to him. I liked his passion in defending Naz. His point was that winning (and how the player contributes to winning) has to be a big factor in determining the award, unlike ROY which usually has nothing to do with the success of the team. And his point was that the Wolves would not be leading the West right now without Naz. Naz has his weaknesses on the defensive side of the ball, but that's not unusual for a 6th man...Hardaway Jr. and Monk are also poor defenders. And nobody can dispute what Naz has done offensively this year.
So what do people think...should Naz be considered the leader in the SMOY race? Or is there someone other that might deserve it more?

Wait, there's over 1,000 views on this thread and no one responded!? Feels like we have a lot more lurkers than regular posters on this site, which is fine, but it would be nice to hear from others besides us "regulars"!
It's a hard thing to parse through as there are a lot of good scorers that come off the bench and offer a spark just like Naz does. What makes him unique are three things: 1) He's a big playing a role that is usually filled by a combo guard or wing; 2) he's doing it on the second best team in the NBA, as you mention FNG, and 3) he has yet to start a game, whereas a lot of other candidates have had to occasionally fill in as a starter (like Hardaway, Jr.).
So yeah, he deserves it, but I don't think he's necessarily that much better than the others. He's just unique.

For what it's worth, I enjoy your posts and hope you show up more often.

Naz should absolutely be in the conversation partly because he is playing on one of the best 2 teams and doesn’t have any starts. I would have to research farther but just looking at Malik Monk the dude is scoring and also racking up 5.5 assists a game and on a reasonable turnover rate. He has turned into a pretty nice player.
Meanwhile Naz right now is lethal from 3 and gives the wolves quite a punch off the bench. Getting him to resign was a big deal.

I don't think we're being homers in our support for NAZ as SMOY, but he had only the 8th best odds on this site as of 2 days ago. I suspect that his breakout performance on national TV Thursday might elevate him a little, and also possibly led to Antonio Daniels' saying yesterday he was the clear choice. Let's go Naz!

Antonio Daniels changed his tune yesterday on the radio, and endorsed Monk. And then last night happened.
Monk is the answer...and then Naz.
