Alright, draft day is here and it deserves a thread as we watch with great anticipation to see which of our favorite prospects might slip down to #27!

The one thing I am confident in is we will have some happy posters with whoever the Wolves select, and some disappointed posters who think a better prospect was available. Oh well...

I already know I will be one of the happy posters because there are so many intriguing prospects for all sorts of different reasons. And rather than focusing on another prospect's skillset we missed out on, I prefer to look at our new draftee's skillset and how it might benefit our roster.

Anyway, there doesn't seem to be a rock solid order at top of the draft. So that will be intriguing all by itself, and what it does to those teams rosters and players it might make available for trade. And we could see quite a bit of movement as teams jockey around for the guys they like.

I'll be there tonight live. Tonight's just gonna be a party for Knicks fans.

My worry always is that these teams in the West keep getting better.

Spurs = 2 firsts, 2 2nds
Jazz = 2 firsts, 1 2nd
Rockets = 1 first, 1 2nd, and ready to wheel and deal
Portland = 2 firsts, 2 2nds

and those are the teams who missed the play-in. At least 2 if not 3 of them have very smart front offices. I still remember 2004-05. I can't be comfortable as a Wolves fan, because if we slip, in the West that's a drop. Gotta get some future contributors at the minimum.

I remember you getting a cameo on live TV one of those past years at the draft!

Thanks for firing this up Tim!

I'm 90% positive we will use just one of our picks in this draft and I wouldn't be surprised if we tried to move up a few spots.

More ecited for the draft than I probably should be. So many things could go down, and there is heat on basically every pick that could be moved at some point these next two nights. It wouldn't shock me if we draft two players at 27 and 37 and call it a day, if we package both picks to move up, if we package both picks for a player, if we trade down, if we trade 37 for a future pick, if we draft a stashed player for the future. I think there is a quite a few ways this draft could go, and with the draft being pretty flat I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of movement by teams trying to get whatever player impressed them in workouts the most.

I think I'm betting we package 27 and 37 for an earlier second round pick and a future 2nd...

Now that could be a shrewd move! If there are lots of players you like at 27, but no one you love, trade back into the early 2nd round to get one of the players you like. In the meantime, since you already have so many young players, you avoid adding a second young player and instead add a future asset. Not to mention you no longer need to commit a roster spot or cap money to your pick if you sign him to a two-way contract, thus making it easier to retain your FAs and/or sign a new vet minimum guy.

Now that is playing chess, Sundog!

If Utah is worried about a player not getting to 29 I could see them trading 29 and 32 to move up a few spots.

The Athletic posted their final mock draft which includes trades. They have the Wolves trading 27, 37 and a future 2nd rounder to Phoenix for the 22 so they can draft Isaiah Collier.

Hmm...

Interesting, Tim. Makes sense for the Suns. I'm hearing they really covet Kolek and have told him they will take him if he's available, and they might be thinking he will still be available at 27. I don't think most mocks have Collier available at 22, so I don't know if he is really their target. Maybe they think they have to move up to 22 to get Baylor, but I think this would be giving up too much to get him. I agree with the Athletic that TC will do something other than just draft 27 and 37, but I don't think it will be this.

So much of the decisions tonight hinge on what management has decided to do with SloMo, Morris and JMac. I'm hoping we don't draft one of the many mini-PGs available in this draft, but if we do, it will be a strong signal that at least one of our backup PGs isn't coming back.
