Free agent guard Johnny Juzang has agreed to a one-year deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, sources tell ESPN. Juzang played his first three NBA seasons in Utah and averaged 8.9 points and 38% 3-point shooting in 19.8 minutes per game in 2024-25.

Per Chris Hine:
It’s a non guaranteed deal, he will fight for a roster spot or 2-way contract

He has put up some pretty efficient offensive numbers the past 2 years on a bad team. How horrible is his defense? I remember liking him in college. He definitely is a guy that has a real shot at making the roster. Another volume 3 point shooter sounds pretty good.
Edit: I wonder if the potential to play with Jaylen Clark again was a small factor in him signing here. The UCLA thread has been pretty strong this summer for the Wolves.

This guys is skilled. He’s a tall SG who has some PG skills. And he can shoot. I’d be content with him for our 14th roster spot.

I watched game 82 against the Wolves. I thought Juzang played solid or better and figured he had actually played better than his box score until I looked at it and he had a nice scoring game.
He isn't a wildly athletic player but he isn't just slow. He has some real strength to him he held up to Randle on one possession. Ant blew past Hina. Couple times but he also put up a pretty good fight a few possessions too. He seemed to understand or have an ability to peel off and help here and there. He seems like a guy that would probably do well playing on a team that knew what they were doing on both ends. He also has enough size to play on both ends.
There is a lot of talk on this board about the lack of PG. Q over the years has pointed out in a number of seasons for many years that the Wolves lacked scoring and or shooting and or playmaking. He also made the point that if the Wolves could get someone that does either of those things it would help. Juzang could be a guy that could help as a shooter. He relocated well throughout the game and he is plenty willing to let it fly and the shot looks good and he has a pretty legit track record of hitting those shots in the NBA. He looks like a smart player who will move the ball. I don't know if I would say he has PG skills but he seems like a guy that knows how to play and would fit in well here. I'd guess we add another ball handler but I think Q's point about having a guy or guys that can shoot would help whoever is handling the ball...and regardless a lot of the time that will be Edwards. It's also why Donte is a really important piece to the roster.
I think we could do much worse for a 14th guy and he has some actual NBA experience. I think he fits what the roster needs more than Minott did and the Wolves added a guy that is more of a PF version of Minott on a 2-way in Freeman.
Juzang is 6'5.25" without shoes with a 6'11" wingspan. That's more length than TSJ and Juzang is now listed at 215. That's not big but that's decent enough to play SG and some SF.

That’s a great breakdown, Monster! Seems like a really solid addition … hope he has a great camp!

I agree with your take, Monster. I watched a bunch of highlight videos of Johnny. He looks solid. Seems like a smart, fluid player with some ball skills and a good perimeter shot. He’s just the sort of guy a team like the Wolves - with our rotation guys in place and our payroll just below the second aprons — should pursue for the 14th roster spot. He’s pretty solid, still young and cheap. I’ve never thought we should fill our 14th spot with a 8th, 9th or 10th rotation guy. That wasn’t realistic.

Signing a guy that theoretically has the ability to slot into that type of role might be fine but like I've said who is gonna jump at the chance to be outside of the rotation and has to hope for players to fail and or get hurt to get minutes? We agree it probably isn't realistic. The offseason isn't over, Juzang hasn't made the team and there are some worthwhile names out there. Having said that I think Juzang has a pretty good chance at making the roster. I'd say it's no less than a 20% chance he is around. What would be interesting to know is if he has some sort of partial guarantees if he makes the roster. I'd guess he does but who knows.

Obviously there’s a pretty decent chance at a PG/combo guard spot being open in our rotation this season. I’m not sure why nobody else sees that. If Conley drops off a cliff, do you think we’re gonna leave him in the rotation as we’re trying to push for the playoffs. If Dilly shows that he’s still a year or two away, do you think we’re gonna leave him in the rotation as we try to push for a good playoff seed? A guy like Juzang doesn’t come here on a non guaranteed contract (when he could easily get a guaranteed contract on a bad team - he’s definitely an NBA player) if he doesn’t think there’s potential playing time. We likely have one of the weakest PG depth charts of any playoff contender and y’all think we’re stacked at PG. Why do you think Westbrook wants to come here? I’m sure there are others too. My prediction is that we sign Brogden. If healthy, his chances of starting are equal with Conley and Dilly and there’s room for 2 in the rotation. Also, just because you’re the 14th or 15th guy signed, doesn’t mean that’s your spot on the depth chart. Ingles is very obviously our last guy on the depth chart and Miller is at the end too. If Juzang sticks, he’s gonna play more than those two and so would a guy like Brogden. I still see a scenario where the guys we add 14th and 15th end up being 9-12 in the actual rotation.
