Overrated Players

I think the Wolves are full of them. Who is the most overrated guy on the roster? To get the discussion going, I'd say here are the guys who are overrated: Ant, Julius, Rudy, and NAZ. This is no particular order but after this gets discussed I will rank them.

On this board? Probably none of them. I'd say 90% negative view of Julius, 70% negative view of Rudy, 50/50 on Naz. Ant has the most dynamic viewpoint from here. The average probably brings him close to 50/50.

If I had to rank them, its probably

Naz
Ant
Rudy
Julius

Nationally?
Gosh, probably none of them. I don't see or hear many, if at all, instances of them getting flowers undeservedly. Rudy and Julius are widely regarded as overrated. Naz is widely regarded as overpaid. Generally speaking, Ant is thought as a second tier star. That feels fair. I was listening to a podcast recently discussing the future of USA Olympic basketball and Ant wasn't even mentioned FWIW.

Yeah, I don't think there are too many players in the league who get ripped more consistently than Gobert and Randle. At times, it feels like Naz Reid is overrated. And Edwards has been overrated at times, but not too egregiously.

I think Joan Beringer is the most overrated player by this board by far. Don't get me wrong...I think he has great potential still. But he is young and raw...hasn't played basketball very long, and has received very little coaching in his native tongue. I think he will be fine, but calls for him to get minutes this year were premature I think.

I would agree that Naz and Ant might be the most overrated nationally, probably because both have achieved almost cult status...Ant because of his huge personality and offensive explosiveness, and Naz because of...I don't know...the towels? (not saying he's not good...he has a unique skill set for a big man). As for Ant, when you win an MVP in the all-star game, it elevates enormously what the typical NBA fan thinks of you.

HAHA, I'm itching to get going on the post mortem. I have some "I told you so's" to deliver. But seriously dudes, if none of these guys are overrated, shouldn't we be a budding dynasty by now? I hear face of the league chatter with Ant, certain hall of famer with Rudy, best non-starter in Naz, and #2 on a championship level team in Randle. I guess when I thought of this thread I was thinking in terms of a combination of this board and national perception. Making the distinction actually makes quite a bit of sense.

I'd agree with this.

He could easily be closer to Jaxson Hayes than any sort of dominant big man. (and that's not necessarily a terrible thing... just more meh.)

Just too raw to know which way it'll go.

The squad has more playoff wins than every other generation of Timberwolves teams in its history combined. OKC is the first potential dynasty for this era, and San Antonio might be the next one. This team is good enough to beat San Antonio this season if our best net rating player Donte is playing, if Ant has two knees, Ayo isn't hobbled, and Naz's shoulder was healthy. Next season is another story with Wemby being another year older and stronger, and Harper coming along. There is going to be need to be some changes next season since the teams has some imbalances to it. The Wolves in it's history has had a lot of overrated players like Love, Rubio (who's one of my favorite Wolves all time), Al Jefferson. This team is one of the top 4-5 teams in the league three years in a row in the playoffs. Right now we are more like the Chris Webber Sacramento Kings years where we just aren't quite good enough. Can we get there, we'll find out if Tim Connelly can get the team where it needs to be. Wemby is going to be a unique challenge to every team for the next decade plus if his body holds up.

Where has the so called best player in the world been two of the last three years? Oh yeah we sent his ass home. Oh big bad Luka Doncic is going to make Rudy and Ant cry and go home in 5 last year, nope sent their ass home in 5.

More context about how overrated these guys are:

They have been underdogs against Phoenix, Denver, LA, Golden State, Denver and San Antonio. They aren't underdogs this often if they are distinctly overrated.
