It feels like ANT 2.0, doesn't it?

We've been watching TC build towards whatever ANT 2.0 is going to look like. But it kinda feels like last season, which was not entirely successful, has put into motion offseason changes that will create our first true iteration of ANT 2.0.
First, we learned what role ANT must play in 2.0, and it ain't PG. We learned that Randle cannot be part of 2.0. We also learned that Donte will no longer be part of 2.0 (although a future return is possible). And while both Joan and Rocco are likely to garner minutes, more time is needed from Rudy before that transition can be completed.
The core is ANT, Jaden and NAZ. Rudy is the C until Joan or Rocco supplant him. Ayo is PG unless superseded by the return on Randle. And the remaining bench is filled out with Shannon, along with whoever is willing to come back on vet minimum contracts from the group of Mike, Bones, Clark and SloMo.
I think there is a better than 50/50 chance the Randle trade is done by the draft. And I wouldn't be surprised if the AYO extension is done before free agency begins, ala NAZ's first contract extension.
Anyway, does it feel like ANT 2.0 makes its debut next season to you?

I think it's truly Ant 2.0 when Rudy is gone. He has such a profound effect on both the defense and offense that the identity of the team cannot shift more completely to Ant & Co. unless he's gone.
That doesn't necessarily mean we're ultimately better as there is a ton of risk that we can't come close to making up for his defense. But given his age, contract, and the hard ceiling we've run into the last two playoffs against OKC and the Spurs, may be it's time to trade him while we can still get quite a lot of value for him. Rip the band-aid off.

Yeah, the complete transition won't occur until Rudy is gone, or no longer starting. But it sure seems his 2.0 replacement is here and will be playing next season. But at 20 years old, I don't mind another year or two of Rudy starting in Joan's place...

I hear a lot about Ant 2.0, but I'm not exactly sure what it means. It seems to me Ant 2.0 happened when we traded away a lot of his teammates for Rudy, and then we had Ant 3.0 when we traded his co-star KAT for Randle and Donte...those were both very significant roster changes designed to put exactly the right combination of players around Ant. But while both of those moves were prudent I thought, they haven't proved to be enough. So now we are likely on the cusp of Ant 4.0, and we're all curious to see what TC is going to do.
I've stayed away from the PG thread because it's silent (except for Q's opening summary) with respect to my first choice and one that seems to be gaining a lot of steam...trading for Kyrie Irving. I'm pretty much on an island here with my belief that Ant is not a complete enough package to lead this team to a championship. But he is an incredible shooter and scorer, and I think the best version of Ant would emerge if he were playing next to 2 certain Hall of Famers in Rudy and Kyrie. Kyrie would allow Ant to play much more off ball, and would give the Wolves two elite scorers.
Jim Souhan talks about a Kyrie trade in this morning's Strib, and apparently Jonny Athletic posted something recently about Ant privately lobbying to trade for him. What would it take to get it done? What I see most often is Randle, Ayo and either our 2032 pick or this year's...I would do that in a heartbeat. I'd be less excited about including Donte in that trade instead of Ayo, but I would still like it. I think a starting lineup of Rudy/Naz/Jaden/Ant/Kyrie instantly puts us in the chip conversation.
Why does Dallas do it? There is some talk that Kyrie is not interested in finishing his career with a team that is building around a teenager and not likely to be a contender before Kyrie retires. Irving has matured since his early flat earth days, but he still has a mercurial side to him...Dallas doesn't want a malcontent around their budding star. Getting draft capital and two players who potentially move into starting roles (only if they think Ayo is a better option in the backcourt than either Christie or Williams) is a good deal for them...and moody Ju would likely be delighted to be back home, even if he were playing for a lottery team.
I know most here see Ant as a #1 on a championship team and maybe someday he gets there...but right now the deep stats he's putting up in the role the Wolves have carved out for him bear little resemblance to those of the true #1's. And I think he gets to that level in a hurry if he is allowed to play SG next to a future HOFer. I think TC needs to swing for the fences this off season, and the other big swing option (Giannis) would create a really bad fit. And any kind of smaller deal smacks of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Bringing Kyrie right now will instantly lead to the best version of Ant, and when he retires in 2 or 3 years, TC can use the cap space to go find Ant's next Robin...or Batman.
Git 'er done!

I figure the Rudy trade was the beginning of ANT 1.0. The Randle trade didn't seem like a "final" 2.0 version, with Mike, Randle and Rudy all on the 30+ side. I always called that the 1.5 version. They may not all be starting next season, but it feels like we have all the young pieces in place to form an ANT 2.0.
I would be disappointed if we some how lost Ayo. Donte is not player next year, and he is in the final year of his contract. There is no telling how that might end. Donte's best value might be as salary filler to help get a Randle for Kyrie deal (likely requiring a 3rd team for Randle) across the finish line.
I know FNG has capped ANT's ceiling. I just don't see it that way.

Never understood why it would take that much to get Kyrie. He hasn't played in a year and is 34. Why is his value higher than Randle himself?

I'm not sure what we're gong to do with Rudy long term. We might trade him this summer, and we might keep him and give him a lower extension beyond his contract and eventually have him coming off the bench in a few years if Joan is good enough to take that spot.

Trading Kat might have been the official start of Ant 2.0 as far as Ant as the leader of the team. Maybe call it Ant 2.1 as the team evolves around the needs of core four Ant, Jaden, Naz, and Joan.

I truly believe Connelly will be talking to Dallas about Kyrie and it will simply come down to whether Dallas asks too much (e.g. Jaden) or some other team outbids the Wolves. Houston might need Kyrie more than we do. I'm still shocked they did absolutely nothing at the trade deadline despite multiple halfway decent guards being made available.
Keep in mind that Kyrie hasn't led a team to a title either, but he was a very good #2 to LeBron's #1 way back when Cleveland won it. That was 10 years ago!
Also keep in mind that Kyrie has a career average of 5.6 assists per game. He is not a passing/game management maestro but has always been more of a lead guard. The one full season he played with Doncic he averaged almost half the assists that Luka did. He was more of a SG for that team.
Still, I agree he's way more of a PG than Ant and he'd be a worthwhile acquisition for the right price. But given his age and the fact he's basically a part-time player these days, the price we pay has to be reasonable. I just think someone else will be willing to give up more.
As for Giannis, he is only a bad fit if Rudy and/or Randle are kept. Their salaries would probably be needed to make it work with a 3rd team involved.

I think people will be a little stunned on how low Kyrie trade value is. 3 years ago he was traded for salary filler (dimwidde had a little value), 1 1st and 2 seconds. Now Kyrie is 3 years older coming off an ACL injury.
I think Randle and a lotto protect first gets it done and maybe a 2nd
