The Timberwolves are declining the team option on Julian Phillips, a source told @TheAthletic.
I’m actually a little surprised here

He was purely a throw in with the Ayo trade. With our glut of shootings guards it makes no sense to keep him and take up a roster spot. Likely free up space for Conley, Anderson and Bones to be resigned to vet min deals.

Not if Miami gets to Conley first.

He is cheaper that a vet min. A team up against the cap in shocked they gave up even more money flexibility

Although, he's not cheaper than a 2nd rounder rookie minimum! By a lot! In theory, the Wolves could sign both Evans and Rocco to the 2nd rounder rookie minimum ($1,361,969, at least according to AI). That makes Phillips' roster spot a lot less expensive...
So, if you take out Phillips' salary, that leaves 8 players under contract heading into free agency. The cap holds for Ayo and Clark are 14.3 mil and 3 mil. The 12-player minimum incomplete roster charge is almost 5.5 mil. And you have to add in the unlikely bonuses for Donte and Jaden for the purpose of the aprons, totaling 1.75 mil. Add that all up and TC has about 9.5 mil to throw around in free agency. This, of course, is before the trades and signings that have been reported.
It will not surprise me if TC throws the full TPE (about 6.1 mil) at the FA he wants, and will deal with the salary cap problems at a later date. Between the major opportunity at PF and a decent amount of money, I expect we'll have a taker pretty quickly!

Rocco has 1 year of NBA service time so he counts as a 1 year vet.

Technically, it is only 8. The trades and extensions have not been executed, and probably won't be executed until other things are figured out. So the numbers I mentioned are actually with Randle and NAZ, because they are technically still on our roster.

Well i guarantee the wolves are operating under the premise they just made a trade.
