The Minnesota Timberwolves are signing Bones Hyland to a minimum contract, sources say.

This signing in reality should close the door on Mike Conley returning.

3 open spots and they should pretty much be used only on forwards.

So Slo-Mo and 2 other spots.

My cap math says the Wolves don't have enough room under the 2nd apron for 3 vet minimum contracts, just 2. Something will be happening down the road. We just don't know what, and don't know when.

Agreed. We don’t need Conley anymore in my opinion. Let the players sink or swim Without dad

if they only go to 14 guys, that means there's a chance we convert Rocco after his two way deal is up,

but we gotta keep in mind if we only have 14 guys, it's really 13 because Donte's not coming back.

Dane Moore
After the Bones Hyland signing, Minnesota is $9M below the 2nd apron -- which they're hard-capped at -- with two roster spots they still must fill.

The Wolves have the taxpayer midlevel exception to offer a free agent a starting salary of up to $6.1M . They can use that full $6.1M amount and sign another player to a veteran minimum contract ($2.45M cap hit) while squeezing under the 2nd apron.

Yep. That confirms my calculation last night. Our front office is really impressive in how they manage the salary cap. They calculate everything down to the penny. As they juggle multiple potential deals scenarios they have all those possible deals calibrated precisely to fit within their financial parameters.

Question for everyone is this. What free agent big do you think we can realistically sign for the $6M MLE?

I thought he knew about these things, but his spreadsheet completely ignores the LaMelo trade kicker and the unlikely bonuses for Jaden and Donte that ARE included when adding up salaries to compare to the apron thresholds. In other words, he's wrong.

But once Josh Green is moved for less $s, it will be a moot point.
