Wolves Ownership, Streaming, New Arena

Some good comments from Jon K about Marc and A-Rod. Jon talks about the professionalism of the current ownership, their commitment to keep the team in MN and their effort to build a new arena downtown. He contrasts how our ownership is conducting business with the Blazers ownership.
We are really fortunate that Marc and A-Rod came to town and bought this franchise. They persevered through Glen Taylor’s pathetic attempt to back out of the deal and never wavered. They went out and hired the highly coveted Tim Connelly and have put in place the most competent, professional front office this team has ever had. We have a team that has played in the Western Conference Finals two of the last three seasons. And ownership has been willing to spend whatever it takes to put this team in contention.
Against that backdrop there’s been a lot of complaining about the Wolves new recently announced streaming deal. I’m not a fan of that deal. I’m old school and want all the games broadcast for free. But that’s just not today’s reality. If we want this team to stay in Minnesota and be a championship contender in this era of the NBA, ownership has to maximize revenue and can’t do business as usual. I’m sure our ownership tried to get a broadcast deal lucrative enough to make sense but it just wasn’t possible. $20 per month to watch all the Wolves games and get other programming isn’t the end of the world from a fan standpoint. At the same time, it’s probably essential from a team business standpoint.
These days it seems that people constantly feel aggrieved and always find something to complain about. When it comes to the Wolves right now I’d say we should be thankful that the franchise we root for is in very good hands.
