What would you guys give up for 4 years of control of Chris Archer?
I'd give up Kepler and Gordon for him.
Romero and Gordon would be a good package but I really like Romero.
I've said it before but the Twins legitimately have 3 future MLB Short stops in the minors and have Polonco, so I see Gordon as expendable.

I dont know anything about Archer, but really like Kepler. I am fine moving Gordon or even Polonco if that makes sense.

I agree with your assessment that Gordon is a good trade chip. He is a bona fide SS prospect from a big league pedigree family who is developing some power as he gets bigger (still only 160 pounds, I think, but scouts say he will get stronger). And with the organization suddenly looking very strong at SS (what a change!), he is somewhat expendable. And Kepler's futility against LHP last season makes me wonder if he is destined to be a platoon player.
So I would offer them for Archer. I've always thought Archer had potential to be a front line starter...he doesn't give up many hits and has one of the best K/9 rates. He struggles with his control sometimes and also finds a hanging slider on the wrong side of the fence too often. But those are issues that often improve with maturity, and at 29 he may still reach his enormous potential. And despite relying so much on a slider, he is remarkably durable. I'd like to see him reach that potential with the Twins.
Jester, are there rumors about us looking at Archer?

LST - Good point about Kepler. Archer would give us 3 solid starters next year.
Why would the Ray's want to move him?

I read a couple articles about Archer a week or 2 ago. Both questioned whether he was an ace and the local article was for sure down on him and gave some worthwhile stats to back it up. The most interesting. Was his ERA during the trips through the batting order. Obviously he would be an upgrade over what we have right now but I question whether you are getting an ace but getting a good #2 guy. What do you give up for a guy like that? Idk Gordon should be a nice trade chip. I hesitate to deal Kepler. He seems to be a good defensive outfielder and like Smalley said on their last podcast if he starts hitting .230 or .240 against lefties he becomes a pretty valuable hitter. He just finished up his 2 year in the majors and turns 25 in February. At some point giving up position players for pitching makes sense (you have to give something to get something) I'm just saying I like Kepler quite a bit.

Yes, I've a pretty reliable source that we've contacted the Rays. Idk what we've offered but the Twins are interested.

I would say the positive is you have a #1/2 guy that is locked up for 4 years at 11-12 mil. If he hit the market today he get 25 mil plus cause of his age and arm talent. This would allow you to sign a Cueto or someone high budget this offseason.
Cueto
Archer
Ervin
Berrios
Let the young guys battle for 5th spot (should be Romero)
Sounds good to me

With your young guys remember we had Jay and Burdi go down last year those guys have excellent stuff. I been told the team really wants to bring back kintzler which I believe he's 35 so shouldn't be too much money.
Kintzler
Belisle
Rogers
Buesnitz
Hilldenberg
Jay
Burdi
Bring back Gee as a long reliever
That's a pretty decent bullpen espically I think Jay or Burdi will eventually be our closer

There were more young guys that were hurt last year that could help too. I think Falvey or Lavine mentioned that recently and mentioned it a few weeks ago with Wolfson.
