Schefter just tweeted we traded Hodges to the 49ers, but didn't say what we got back. Please bring back a safety who can play next to Harrison.
Edit: traded for a sixth round pick and center Nick Easton. Meh. If the lineman plays good trade otherwise it doesn't make much sense to me to make this move now.
Edit 2: After further research, he is an undrafted guy they were about to cut so it's looking like we probably just traded Gerald for a 6th round pick. Weird timing.

#Vikings have traded LB Gerald Hodges to San Francisco for a sixth-rd pick and C Nick Easton (aka Matt Birk clone because he is from Harvard)
Looks like the 49ers were going to cut him either way.

49ers traded form him earlier this year

I have always been a fan of Hodges he is still only 24 and was a converted safety had potential etc etc but honestly it always seemed like he never really played all that well consistently and left me wanting more. We will see what this olineman turns out to be but a 6th rounder and a guy you want on your 53 man roster plus in an area of need for a fringe starter seems like a decent deal.

More Easton takes

I like the young OL we picked up in him and Sirles. I hope they develop. It would be nice to see Easton get some snaps for us and become that center of the future.

I can't say I'm super disappointed we got rid of Hodges, and we did recoup the 6th rounder and added a little OL depth. I wasn't a fan of Hodges in general, but he was a young guy with ability that could grow along with this team, but he was probably better suited for OLB. Having Greenway on the team now is important for bridging the gap and teaching young guys how to work, but it's tough to see him on the field for only a handful of snaps when Hodges could have been useful for more years.
Again, a little disappointed because I felt he had some worth to us, but not a heartbreaking move.

I think this is also a sign that Patterson has no value around the league at this point. I am sure he was mentioned in this trade.

There is talk about him being traded and I am sure there would be interested teams. He is built for KR and even if he is a guy you have to make up stuff to get him the ball it could be worth it. I wonder of getting Teddy and AP on the same page with an offensive line that is struggling overall hurts the chances they use CP more than they have. CP is in his 3rd year 2nd in this offense and 24 years old. I am not holding out a lot of hope for him but I wonder if it's a little too early to give up on him unless you get some fairly decent draft pick in return.

There's too many teams who are just decimated at WR for him to not draw any interest. I do think if we want a player of value back we will have to include some level of pick. The Panthers have 3 safeties playing regular snaps and no WR's. Then next year they'd have Benjamin and Patterson. Rolando McClain is coming back for the Cowboys and they have Sean Lee already. Maybe Patterson and a pick could land McClain to be our run stopping ILB we need. The Eagles have 3 quality ILB's and could use some big play potential on the outside. The main problem is most teams want to acquire guys during their bye week if they make any deals so Patterson will probably have to wait for the right bye week before he is dealt. I realize the team is comfortable with the linebacking depth given they just traded Hodges, but I still think we need a run stopper in the middle on first and second down and right now we don't have that guy. I think we have a great nickel package, but we can't run nickel all game and stop the run. Ideally we'd get more line help or a coverage safety, but I don't think any teams have that kind of safety sitting on the bench and line help won't matter unless it's either a RG or RT and Harris takes the other position accordingly.

If this team wanted McClain they could have signed him in the offseason or another similar player.

That was before Kendricks had any game tape and they had 3 ILB's on the roster. Now we're down to 2 and Kendricks hasn't been great against the run yet. He might be a better fit at WLB. I believe they thought Hodges was going to be their run stopper and now he's gone.
