Sam Bradford!!!

Well they got him. Bradford if he can stay healthy is actually a pretty good option I'm surprised we hadn't mentioned him before. The price was pretty high though I think it was too much. He is signed for 2 years and the Vikings can afford the cost since Teddy is cheap.

ESPN reports #Vikings to send Eagles 1st & 4th round draft picks in 2017. Rick Spielman had said Thursday Vikings wouldn't give up high pick

Positives:
- He's a guy who's actually capable of running the traditional Turner offense. Plenty of questions, none about his arm.
- The guy has ability, though he's never managed to unleash it fully.
- He has a two year contract, in all likelihood it'll take much of that time for Teddy to regain form.
- Probably the biggest positive IMO is they didn't have to give up any current players so the team's depth/strength remains in tact.
- Unless Bradford has his worst year ever, or gets hurt again, the 1st round pick should be relatively low.
Negatives:
- Is there a more injury prone QB in the NFL?
- Can he survive a full NFL schedule plus playoffs behind the Viking's line?
- He's one of those massive potential guys who've never realized his potential.
- At this stage in the game it's highly unlikely he ever will.
- In typical Vikings fashion they cannot let me just write off a once promising season. No, they have to get a high potential QB that will eventually raise my hopes so that they can once again be crushed. Bastards.
In all honesty I'm pretty ho-hum about this. The only QB that would really get my heart rate up, who could even remotely have been made available would be Philip Rivers. No guarantee SD would trade him, and if they did they'd want more than an arm and a leg, but he would immediately elevate the Vikings to Super Bowl contender, and would likely have been one of the favorites.

Some much truth there it made me laugh and....brace for the worst.

One thing I will add here:
People are saying the Eagles fleeced the Vikings and rightly so. However they also basically paid 11 million bucks for a 2017 1st round pick and a 2018 4th round pick. This year the Vikings are paying Bradford 7 million this year which is top backup money.

Some facts about Sam Bradford:
1) He was the first American Indian to start for a Division I NCAA team since Sonny Sixkiller in 1972.
2) When he won the Heisman Trophy in 2008, he became only the second sophomore (Tim Tebow was first ) to win it, and second Native American (Jim Plunkett)
3) In his Heisman year, he threw 50 TD passes and had only 8 interceptions
4) He's smart...all Big-12 Academic team every year in college and scored a very high 36 on the Wonderlic
5)He averaged a double double in high school basketball, and is a scratch golfer
6) He was the first overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft
7) He holds several NFL rookie passing records:
-most consecutive passes without an interception (169)
-most attempts and completions
-only rookie to win 2 consecutive offensive rookie of the month awards
8) He's coming off arguably his best season...completing 65% of his passes for 3725 yards (in 14 games), with 19 TDs against 14 interceptions. While his 28 sacks were not a positive, he only lost 1 fumble.
He's had shoulder and knee injuries, but after considering that he has generally played on very bad football teams, the above facts leave some room for optimism about our new QB. How much better will he be with a defensive team that gives him good field position, a future HOF offensive coordinator, and a future HOF running back?

To add to what have said here something I thought was interesting.
"Sam Bradford has never started a game for a team with a top-10 rushing offense."

Sam Bradford has never started an NFL game for a team with an NFL offense. The more I've gone and looked at what he has had for teammates on the offensive side of the ball the less concerned I am that he hasn't become a star QB. There is absolutely no question that the skill position players on this roster are far and away the best he's played with in the NFL. If the line can keep him upright he has the ability to hit on the deep passes that Teddy has always struggled with, which in turn opens up the game for AD, which in turn opens up the deep ball. For all the potential negatives the upside is immense!

Some highlights from last year to keep the positivity rolling. There are plenty of balls thrown over 20 yards on here. =)

While yes, that was a
highlights video I still like what he shows with a subpar supporting cast. I like Teddy, but he hasn't hit that many 15+ yard passes in his two full seasons as show up in that 14 game video. The thing I like the most about that is how well he hits receivers in stride, something that other than the Favre years has been pretty rare for the Vikings. Just think of Diggs and Johnson catching the ball on the run! The other nice thing is how well he sees the field, he does a great job of checking down his options.
This really is a boom or bust deal for the Vikings. There is no question that Spielman could come out of this looking like the backside of a mule, but he could easily come out looking like a genius!
