Guessing round one we go WR, but man Robert Nkemdiche looks like he could be a steal.

In that Sports over beers podcast Wolfson made a point that Zimmer to the media expressed isn't satisfied with his defense. Wolfson speculated about the reality of the question about are the Vikings perfectly happy with Floyd as their guy there for the next however long? Another talent guy would t be a bad thing. tom Johnson won't be around forever. What if they can add a freak pass rusher and or one that can also go inside at times like Robison has done for a number of years? I won't be shocked if they go for a player like that you never know who will be taken or who will drop. All we heard about last year was WR WR WR WR WR WR WR oh maybe this CB sounds like a good player. they take Wayne in the first round sign a guy that keeps him from playing and Ho hum the defense gets even better with a first rounder playing sparingly. Good stuff.

If they can't get a quality O lineman I wouldn't mind them flipping the script and doing D again in round one. I love the idea of making this D totally dominant. The wideouts seem hit or miss this draft. I'd rather them take a flyer on a guy with real size later in the draft. Keyarris Garrett??

Their doesn't seem to be a lot of top end talent at WR this year. One can conclude that even Treadwell would typically be a 2nd round talent in comparison to the WR talent in the last 4-5 drafts, though he is the one WR I would be fine with taking at #23. With that being said, I would look to add an O-lineman only if Ronnie Stanley or Jack Conklin fall to #23 as they could immediately compete with Kalil at LT, and provide us with talented young depth at LT where we currently do not have much depth. At OG we have Boone, Harris, and Fusco that can all play either OG spot, Harris can kick out to RT, and Fusco can also play C. That provides us with plenty of flexibility at the other 4 positions. The reason I only look at those 2 players at #23 is because the middle rounds have plenty of offensive line talent that is very comparable in upside.

This draft seems to be loaded with Defensive talent. My pick @ 23 would be the BPA on defense because of this. There will be top options at DE, DT, and LB that fall to us simply because of the sheer amount of defensive talent available at those positions. Monster brought up Floyd, and I couldn't agree more. I have never really liked his play. Sure he can rush the passer, and have a few very good games, but too often he disappears. He also can be seen getting pushed 3-5 yards back on rushing plays, and then you add in his tendency to be injured. Imagine grabbing an Andrew Billings type, who could very well be a top 15 pick in a draft that has more rounded talent on both sides of the ball, and pairing him with Linval Joseph to plug the middle for the next few years allowing Barr/Kendricks/Hunter/Griffen/Robison to face one on one matchups all game. We all remember how those giants defeated the undeafeated patriots in the superbowl, and that was having a constant influx of fresh D-lineman that they rotated all game. Zimmer loves rotating, and I would love to hand him another D-lineman to help with that.

I'd be glad to have any of these players at #23, though Billings, Lee, and Ronnie Stanley are my top 3 choices.

DT - Billings, Robert Nkemdiche, Jonathan Bullard
CB - Mackenzie Alexander, William Jackson III
LB - Darron Lee, Su'a Cravens (LB/S hybrid)
S - Von Bell
DE - Kevin Dodd, Emmanual Ogbah

OT - Ronnie Stanley, Jack Conklin
WR - Treadwell
TE - Hunter Henry (Not a sexy pick, and very controversial, but he is as rock solid as they come. No dropped passes this last season, is athletic enough to split the safetys down the seam, and is an excellent blocker. I'd love to see him and Ellison as our TEs as we say good riddance to the "there is always next year to wow us Kyle Rudolph".

1st - DT - Andrew Billings (Just turned 21, and switched from O-line to D-line in college. Sky is the limit, similar to our pick in Danielle Hunter last year.)

2nd - WR - Tyler Boyd

3rd - OLB - Jaylon Smith (Tore his ACL at the end of the season, and there is talk of nerve damage. Pre-injury he was a top 10 talent, and it looks as if he may fall all the way into the 4th. The Vikings are in a great position to take the risk on Smith, as we can allow him to sit out the whole season to recover right, as Greenway is back for his last year.)

4th - OT - Joe Haeg

5th - C - Evan Boehm or Jack Allen

6th - CB/S Deiondre' Hall

7th - WR Moritz Boehringer: He's a wideout from Germany who covers all the measurable. 6'4 4.43 40 yard 40 inch vertical. Extremely raw, but worth a chance at this point in the draft

7th - P - Drew Kaser, Riley Dixon, Will Monday, Nick O'Toole. Anything to get rid of Locke

Undrafted: I'd like to see us bring in QBs Marquise Williams, Trevone Boykin, and Everett Golson. Hopefully one of them show something special and can compete for our backup position.

Pretty good breakdown here.

Kinda harsh on Rudolph imo. Remember Ellison is returning from injury and the Vikings have Priutt.

I like you brought up replacing Locke. Lots of metric say he sucks as a punter but it did seem he was more consistent at least early on in the year in what they ask him to do. I'll a couple things here. Vikings were top 5 in fliers position both in where they got the ball and where their opponent got the ball. A lot of that likely has to do with their defense and You are probably thinking Walsh was cranking out touchback a but he was just middle of the road in touchback percentage. All I am saying is that Locke MAY not be as bad as the stats indicate and we don't know for sure what the Vikings are asking him to do and whether or not he is succeeding a a respectable rate in their game plan. This article brings up some interesting stuff.

http://m.startribune.com/time-for-the-vikings-to-bring-in-competition-for-punter-jeff-locke/367007231/

Also Locke punted fewer times than all but 4 teams. Did he tend to punt in situations where net yardage numbers would not be favorable? In other words were a high percentage of his one where he is standing a few yards from the 50 yard line either way and big distance isn't paramount? Of course then you have to factor in coverage units. How good were they?

Just to be clear I would have no problem with bringing in another punter however I do think it's possible he is doing a better jobs than the stats say and he is coming into his 4th year so he could breakout to a certain extent. His holding for Walsh seems to have been an issue as much as anything. Lol

I'm TOTALLY on board with a new punter. I just wish there was a punter in the draft that won the Ray Guy award the last TWO years. Oh wait, there is, Tom Hackett. He may require a late 3rd/early 4th, but he's the best punting prospect since Reggie Roby.

Well this thing gets real tomorrow. Any thoughts? I'm always fascinated by both the NBA and NFL drafts.

I saw that Speilman said a couple teams have called about moving up to #23. I immediately wondered if a team was looking to move up to get one of those other QBs. This draft has already been interesting on that front and I think it's is gonna be interesting because of the QB position with plenty of teams that don't exactly have that spot locked up.

1. When Zimmer said that about the defense, I was about to go off on him again, but then I went to FBoutsiders, and they have the MIN defense at 14th in DVOA (#16 in offense, #4 in S/T), so maybe he has a point. This time.

2. I am fine with whatever Speilman does, but if they are going to trade down, they should probably go ahead and do it. ATL has made it clear they want to trade down from #17 and MIA has made it clear they want to trade down from #13, so they really aren't in a position to haggle.

3. Once again, I am fine with whatever Speilman decides, but maybe this is "Quality" year versus a "Quantity" year, and MIA's 13th could be had for next to nothing. I know he likes to make 10 picks, but are there really 10 open roster spots? They went into last year's draft with a lot more questions and only kept, what, 6 of their picks?

I could see a scenario where even if you trade down a few spots with the top pick and it may allow you to get quality deeper in the draft since you have more picks to move up at any given point. How much better is the guy 5 or 10 or whatever picks higher than where you are at? Idk Sure they had 10 picks last year only 6 made it but they traded for an olineman because some of the guys they brought in weren't good enough and there were some injuries. Some guys won't cut it but it might be worth drafting them anyway. You never know who is going to be worthwhile and who won't.
