Walsh released

I'm sad to see him go but...yeah it makes sense. Which guy do you think will get the call? Forbath supposedly has the accuracy but not the leg. With the new kickoff rules is having big leg quite as big of a deal?

I nailed it Forbath is the guy. It makes some sense to bring in a guy that's already worked with the holder and longsnapper in college. Walsh has missed more PATs this year than Forbath has in his entire career.

If you imagine this team somehow putting it all back together without a offensive line then this makes perfect sense. If you're pessimistic like I am that this team can do anything worthwhile with what's left on that line then this makes no sense.

Mason Crosby went through this and the Pack stuck with him all while they were contenders and he overcame his issues and is once again one of the better kickers in the NFL. I think Walsh will kick in this league again and will do it well, all the while the Vikings likely search for something better.

I likes Walsh and I thought that he was a Crosby type but looking at Walsh his career actually looks more like other kickers out of work that had early success like Alex Henry, Randy Bullock etc. Crosby had been kicking for more years before his struggles. Blair has had a few issues the last couple years which are concerning. Looking at a ton of kickers stats etc the last few weeks and to me it becomes clear kicking is so mental and somehow some guys lose it and some guys despite having a couple terrific seasons are unemployed. With Forbath be the answer? Idk it feels like at least he will probably make a PAT so that offers some comfort. Walsh missed 4 this year. The other bad thing is the Vikings will be paying Walsh money for 4 years.

Edit: I should clarify I was supportive of keeping Walsh for all the reasons you said and I would have been fine with him still on the roster espcially since we may be paying him for all that time anyway but I guess I see more now than a week ago the rationale for moving on and getting another kicker. As I alluded to earlier the mental aspect of Walsh and kicking we don't know about. Maybe the Vikings thought it had gone past a point where it was going to work out here. Blair clearly was getting frustrated by the media (can't blame him for showing frustration in general) but that wasn't a good sign.

I would bet the move was made for team morale as well. Players get pissed when someone keeps getting to mess up and hang around regardless of what they say to the media. Getting someone more consistent is important, but don't underestimate the morale blow it creates to have the same guy leave points on the board every week when you are trying to break a losing streak.

Exactly, Khans...Walsh jad lost his teammates. Just look how deflated they came out in the second half...they had all the momentum going with 3 touchdowns in the second quarter, but after Walsh missed the extra point, it seemed like they were thinking "We're busting our asses out here, and he can't even make an extra point?" That miss seemed to impact the rest of the game. I don't think the Vikings brass thinks the new guy is a better kicker than Walsh...I think they just knew they had to make a move.

As someone else said in a comment section if they were that deflated and came out of halftime playing poorly...well there are some pretty big problems. I do agree with you guys making a move could help team morale to some extent. Let's hope Forbath is at least more accurate on PATs I feel somewhat good about that happening.

I thought Walsh had a future at LT for the rest of the season. Now we will never know.

My thoughts exactly! While I was hoping Walsh would get it together and enjoy a long career with the Vikings I'm not shocked or upset they cut him. But if one missed extra point caused the defense to let the Skins walk all over them in the second half then cutting solves nothing.
