Trade Deadline Thread

I thought I would start this because no one else has.

I have read that MIA is interested in Nolasco, and also, according to BSPN, no one wants to trade with MIA because they don't like their farm system. So how about Nolasco/Walker/Beresford for their two best pitching prospects. That gives them the pitcher they want and doesn't really damage their farm system (admittedly while not really help it). As far as the Twins, Jimmy Walker strikes at a lesser rate than Adam Walker, and there is no place for Beresford while he's three years short of medicare.

Discuss, or add your own ideas. They can't be any worse than Nerlans Noel or Dellavedova.

I would think the Twins would just be thrilled to have someone take Nolosco off their hands. I doubt the deal gets very big the biggest discussion would be able how much salary the Twins would be willing to pay to have Nolosco gone. Maybe they get some random low level prospect in return. If the Marlins need a vet starter and they can't seem to interest anyone else because they have no interesting prospects maybe the Teins can get them to take him and not have to pay much to send him packing. Going back to the NL could mean some sort of success for Nolosco. That's probably what these NL teams that have been said to be sniffing around him the last few month have to be thinking.

Santana is the other piece that is going to bring offers. I hope the Teins get something pretty good back in return if they deal him.

I would think the Twins have a couple of relievers that will draw interest like Abad. I'm really not sure how I feel about trading any reliever at this point. The Twins can use all the help they can get there and while I think they need to build the pen from within that may take time. Having a couple at the very least decent vet relievers would be nice. At some point you can only have so many prospects. Obviously if they get something pretty good in return sure pull the trigger and Abad might be a guy they have no control over past this year so it may make sense to get something for him if it's offered.

I think that Santana, Nunez, Abad and Kintzler could all be moved in the right deals.
I also think the bullpen is on the right path with something like Rogers/Boshers/Tonkin/Pressly/Baxendale/Burnett/May.

I would love a deal with BAL for Santana, because I think The Twins can get anything they want if they agree to take back Jimenez (2017 left at Santana-level money). The thing that scares me about BAL: if a guy was ever going to be a bust based on his name alone, I think it would be Chance Sisco. Is he a catcher? Is he one of Ariana Grande's backup dancers? I can't tell.

Fun post Jason.

I don't know if you saw but I guess Rob Anthony said they aren't shopping Santana. If they weren't going to get something decent back (maybe they weren't getting good offers) then I can see keeping him around. It would make even more sense if they could move Nolosco.

As I look at the roster over the next 5 years, I see two glaring needs...third base, and catcher. I think we need to use assets to bring back two guys who could fill these needs in the future. The only assets of value that I would consider giving up are Santana, Abad, and one of our many OF prospects.

3B and C are big problems. Plouffe is close to done, and they were hopeful Sano might be the future there. I think 10 errors in 15 games after similar ineptitude in the minors proves he is not the guy. Every ground ball is an adventure, his arm is strong but erratic, and he can't even catch a popup! RF didn't work, 3b was worse...Sano is a DH, period.

Suzuki is hitting well this year, but isn't young and continues to be among the worst in the league in throwing out base stealers. Murphy is barely over .200 in the minors, and Centeno is not the answer. Even worse, there isn't one C I can name in the minors that is considered a top prospect. They need to use their high pick on the best college catcher this year, and also try to get a prospect back in trade.

LST - I would love to see them go strong after a 3B and C in free agency in the offseason. We seem to have much better luck with signing position players then pitchers.

I wouldn't give up on Sano at 3rd that quickly. They do also have Polonco who could play there so I don't see them having to look for a 3rd baseman as a priority right now.

Catcher...yeah they have some prospects but even if they turn out to be decent they are a year away. They made a move for a solid prospect in Murphy and that hasn't worked out so far but he is 25 and I wouldn't completely give up on him yet. Maybe they can trade Palka back to get Chris Herrmann...

Agreed. Sano took ZERO grounders in the spring, and fielding wasn't his strength going in. And if it doesn't work out, people seem to like Cabbage and Blankenhorn.

As far as catcher, people seem to like Hicks AND Mitch Garver.

I am far more scared that Buxton will never hit and Berrios will never become confident.

I see lots of good things in the field and in the pen. Starting pitching scares me.
