Jason one issue with Pinto was I read he was out of minor league options. He was likely gone one way or another.

I didn't know he was out of demotions, and I don't know the rules, but it seems the best move would have been to bring him to spring training, and if he hits keep him, if not, then maybe move on.
I looked at catchers for MIN, Rochester, and Chat {bored}. MIN is basically Suzuki and that guy they got from NYY, unless they still have Fryer. Roch. are two guys who are 27 and never caught on with any other big league clubs. Chat. has some younger guys (this 23 y/o from Ole' Miss looks promising) who could be ready for Roch. but not ready for MIN.
It's a little depressing. I can't think of a deeper dearth at any one position across all four MIN major sports teams.

Fryer signed a minor league deal with the Cards because he went to the same HS as Matheny I think.
The Catching position withbthe Twins is sad. Let's be honest if anyone is crying about losing a guy like Fryer who can't hit at all and Pinto who has legit injury issues and might not be able to be good enough defensively to play C then your organization is screwed at the position...but we already knew that. That's why adding Murphy was a big move and the Twins may add some random vet AAA minor league catcher for depth at some point because they have that opening. There is no reason to protect Pinto or Fryer on the 40 man when you an keep a young player from some team taking them in the rule 5 etc or being able to add a FA. Hopefully one of the young guys they drafted years ago makes some sort of step forward at least for depth.
