Free Agent Market for QBs

Good read about Kirk Cousin market and why there might not be much of a "case" to sign Case to a longterm deal and why even if Bridgewater can't be tolled we can get him back at a reasonable value.

Then again maybe Bridgewater will have more demand than Keenum to a team that drafts a QB. They can tell Teddy he is #1 and his job to lose and if it goes well he can move on to another team in 2019.

I hadn't seen McCaroon was now an unrestricted FA now. That adds a more easily singable guy to the mix. I still think Cousins is gonna get plenty of money. He is still the most proven guy any team can get although Foles being available does make it interesting.

I think the Eagles hold on to Foles unless someone makes a stupid offer. I am guessing he gets traded like Bradford post preseason. They will know where they are at and someone will be desperate.

I tend to agree. I mean you gotta get at least a 2nd rounder or why move him? He isn't making cost prohibitive money and he just helped you win a super bowl. Having a guy like that is pretty valuable. I'm sure he would like a chance to start but I bet he isn't just itching to go anywhere for that opportunity. I'm not sure what I would give up to get him if I was the Vikings.

One thing to consider is the timeline for franchise and transition tags. I was looking up dates for the NFL and I believe today is the first day those tags can be used. The deadline to use those tags is March 6. First contact with free agents is March 12. So if the Vikings consider using one of those tags it would have to be before FA starts. I don't know how much they will be able to know at that point what could be waiting for them in FA who would be interested and how much $$$$$ it would take. Those dates (pretty sure that's what they were) make me think it's less likely they use either of those tags on Keenum or even Teddy (long shot to begin with).

I saw a report that the Vikings are all in on Kirk Cousins. What are your thoughts? With not franchising Case and Teddy being a FA and Bradford being made of glass it might make sense now.

If they can manage the cap and get Cousins. That would be a good move. The key to me is going to still be drafting and managing the cap.

One guy I would consider as an option would be Mike Glennon. A year ago the guy was considered better than both Foles an Keenum. I think he was in a bad situation and is certainly worth a flyer.

The problem with Glennon is he is pretty much a pocket passer with a big arm. That doesn't fit what the new QB coach said he likes. I don't think his strengths fit the Vikings offense and personnel either. He fit with the bears before their big WRs went down with injuries as a guy that could bomb the ball down to them like he did with Vincent Jackson and the other guy that escapes my mind. I do think he is a guy that's better than he looked last year but I think he needs the right fit. If he signs as a backup cheap for the right team like maybe the Ravens they could get a relative bargain.

I remember Glennon was tested at 48 MPH at the combine. Lower then Ponder at 51. Now I'm not sure if he had an injury but that was amongst the lowest I've seen (if he was hurt a bit he should have skipped it). Teddy was at 54 MPH. NFL starter avg is right around 54-55.

I'm not sold at all on him as a starter, but if he wants to be a backup that would be OK. Same with Teddy. Now I don't see him in practice, so I don't know how well he progressed. But I'd love Teddy if he looks good in practice as a backup still.

You can't skimp on the backup position, as we've seen with Nick Foles and several other teams NY Giants won with Hostetler I think in 1990. Doug Williams in 88'? Heck Brady in 2001?

Must NOT skimp on the backup. Heck I'd love to have 2 solid options behind whoever is signed as the guy.
