Alex Wimmers

There is a lot of excitement about our position player prospects, and some buzz about pitching prospects Alex Meyer, Trevor May and Kohl Stewart. Somewhat lost in the shuffle is Alex Wimmers. The 2010 first round pick had Tommy John surgery just about a year ago, and is beginning his comeback in the Rookie League. They are obviously bringing him along slowly, but he did throw 4 effective innings last night: Only 1 run and 2 hits in four innings, with 2 walks and 6 strike outs.
When I first saw video of Wimmers at Ohio State, he seemed to be a TJ surgery in waiting with a somewhat violent delivery. Let's hope the new ligament can support that delivery and maybe even give him a little more pop on his fastball. He already has a plus changeup and a potential plus breaking ball. He could be a good middle of the rotation starter in a couple years.
