Garin Cecchini is a big time 3B prospect for the Boston Red Sox. Supposedly, the Twins really like him and it's not hard to see why. The guy's a stud.
My question is: What would it take to get him?
Cecchini would command more than Morneau. Correa or Pelfrey also likely wouldn't get him. Perkins almost definitely would and Boston has had bullpen trouble all year long.
If we could get Cecchini and throw-in prospects, would you deal Perkins for him? I love Perkins and how he's a hometown guy and all of that. Not to mention he's a top tier closer in the game. I'd seriously think about making this move, though.

i wouldn't do this trade....again i think besides Mauer, Perkins is the only other untouchable on the roster....IMO you build around those two

How much can you really build a team around a closer, though? They're extremely important don't get me wrong, but position players are more valuable. If we could get Cecchini and some others, our future looks promising and that's saying it lightly.

Perkins is a valuable trade chip because of his results and his very attractive contract, and I think he could bring more than a Cecchini. I would consider a deal like this only if we have given up on Sano as a third baseman, but from what I read, I don't know that Cecchini is considered a whiz defensively either. He has produced a high average at every level, but why doesn't a guy that big have more HRs? He only hit 4 in A ball last year, and even though he has 7 this year, his HR rate has slowed since his promotion. Baseball America had him as the 41st best prospect last week, way behind Sano at #3. Certainly doesn't have Sano's power potential. If he's not going to beat Sano out at 3B, I don't think he is worth giving up Perk. Now if he were a middle infielder or a catcher, I might have a different answer.
I wouldn't do this deal, and Boston likes him so much I don't think they would either.

Wouldn't mind the trade, but I would rather go after a middle infielder as someone else mentioned. Supposedly Aybar and Kendrick are both available. I must say that Florimon and Dozier are playing better than expected, but it would be nice to have one of those guys, especially Kendrick. Perkins is great-but I'd rather have a proven position player than closer.

hmm.....an all star closer in his prime & on a friendly contract is more valuable than a position player prospect IMO....not saying I wouldn't trade the guy for the right deal.....but I would be very choosey when looking for the best deal....
