We all liked Arroyo on her and would've been happy with him but he's just a innings eater and we already have that with Correia.

Also we've gone done this road and sign guys like this with history of arm troubles. look how we took a flyer on Rich Harden last year and to a certain point Vance Worley. Zumaye the year before that. If Jason Vargas is worth 4 years and 32 mil, Hughes is worth 24 mil for 3.

Yeah like cam said yes are they our 1 & 2 now yes, but in the future they will be our 3 & 4. Volans idk what you wanted them to do go into the year with the same pitching staff historically bad pitching staff? They literally got two top free agent pitchers on good deals. 8 mil is real cheap for Hughes. Just look at the Vargas deal lol. With new TV contracts the twins still have 22 million dollars left to spend if they want too. Also you should look at Hughes stats outside Yankee stadium. Hughes has the 2nd highest fly ball rate in all of baseball which will suit him well at target field because we all know how big target field plays. Plus probably by 2015 the Twins will probably have the best defensive outfield in the league with Buxton and hicks.

Plus kohl Stewart might even be ready so this is why in excited about the signings. Also with a top 5 pick coming up in this years draft. Boy I hope trea turner SS NC state drops to us at 5 but I doubt it.

8 mil is cheap for a bottom of the rotation guy? I'm not going to believe that Hughes is a good pitcher until I see him begin to pitch well more consistently. It's nice that the Twins are spending money on free agents but I think it would be more prudent to go after pitchers like Bedard, Capuano, Arroyo, Volquez, or maybe even Halladay or Johan Santana. None of these guys can be depended on to win 15 games but let's be honest the Twins aren't going to do jack next year so they might as well save a little dough and piece together a rotation.

I may be talking out of my ass as I did not watch much baseball last year but looking at Hughes career statistics he is not anything to be excited about.

I don't like the Hughes signing.

The six teams (counting TEX) that made the post season last year had a 3.99 ERA or better, and all but CLE were either over 6 innings/start or very close. I believe a HEALTHY Diamond/Deduno/Correia/Albers/Nolasco are CAPABLE of doing that.

I would prefer they spent that money on the Left side of the infield, either through free agency or maybe trading for somebody another team is having trouble paying

Other than Nolasco, who do you have confidence in getting a win out of those four? With Nolasco and Hughes we have something of a one-two punch. It's still weak as a 1 and 2, but definitely better than any other duo that we currently have, especially if Hughes pitches the way I think he can in Target Field. He has really good numbers here and he was good on the road last year. Compile that over 25-30 starts as a Twin and he's a really decent pitcher.

I think if we stay put and don't sign Arroyo or Santana/Floyd, we're looking at Nolasco/Hughes/Correa/Deduno/Albers rotation. Though, Deduno is coming back from shoulder surgery, so Gibson/Diamond could find themselves starting when the season begins.

Jason, you have more faith in Diamond than I do. He's a long reliever/spot starter in my eyes. I'm off the Diamond bandwagon. I have no idea how he had a 3.50 ERA two years ago. If he finds himself again, that'd be great, but I don't see it and I'm glad Terry Ryan and the FO didn't sit around to find out.

Deduno/Diamond/Albers are wildcards, honestly. Meaning that I have no idea what to expect from either of them next year. I threw Albers in there because he was a rookie last year that only started 10 games. Second years are usually tough as the league adjusts.

The only thing I'm praying that doesn't happen is that Pelfrey comes back somehow. Please baseball gods, no, don't do that to me.

I said this before. Who do you want from the FA pool that plays SS or 3B? Please? There's not one interesting name that I'd like Minnesota to spend money on. Flormon is at least above average with the glove/arm and still finding himself with the bat. Plouffe has shown power in the past and his glove is improving. Add on to the fact that Sano is a year away (maybe half a year). Spending money for a 3B makes zero sense to me.

Hopefully they pulled that offer quickly.

Also, we might still be in the running for Arroyo. I keep reading that even after the Nolasco/Hughes signings, the Twins still really like him. He wants three years. Pretty sure we only want to go two. I say why not give him that third year if the money's right. If we need to before that third year, deal him. He's pretty consistent and reliable. You know what you're getting from the guy. Arroyo/Nolasco/Hughes/Correa/Deduno or Albers. Pretty damn solid, honestly.

Getting closer to signing AJP as well. Glad that's in the works.

AJP signed with the Red Sox. Marlins, White Sox and Twins are the teams most heavily involved with Salty. Think a 3-year, $30M deal is what he'll get and out of those three teams, Minnesota is the best situation in terms of winning now and the future.

From every update that I've read, NOBODY is thinking about handing Salty a five-year deal. Nobody. Even four years would be a stretch, but I could see that happening from the Marlins if they really wanted him.

Wow. 3 years/$21m. Gotta say, I would have been ok with MIN going 3/$24m, and then trying to package Pinto with someone like Walters to get a SS who hits better than Houston Jimmenez.
