Kirk's best QB ratings are with multiple TE's. John DeFilippo likes to use TE's and Kle Rudolph will turn 30 in 2019 and cost us 8M in salary. Not a bad idea to add another TE to the roster and honestly, the smart teams know how much a weapon they are if you have the right talent.
I would just argue the lack of depth we have at several positions means we just can't luxury pick a TE so early in the draft. We need another edge rusher, corner, safety, LB and interior line. I would prioritize all of those over another TE. We have so many receivers that we need to figure out how to utilize them all and not run just Thielen or just Thielen and Diggs for most of the game. Use the resources you have and fill your needs before you start picking for luxury. Every year has been a "good" TE draft for like the last half dozen years and then most of them don't end up being game changers like a Gronk or Kelce.
I agree. I don't see it as a priority. I would get drafting a guy early if you thought he was going to be a game changer right away so I get the idea of drafting a TE in theory. I'd have doubts about getting that type of impact guy though for sure.
Ultimately I don't think Cousins needs many more weapons. Last year he threw for over 4000 yards and his leading receiver didn't even have 800 yards. Their leading rusher had 603 yards and averaged 3.4 yards a carry.
I only like 3 TE's in the draft. I wouldn't take a guy to take a guy but if the best TE in the draft is available at the end of the second you have to take him. My other TE picks are 4th or 5th round guys. I think this draft is really weak at TE.
LB is another position that is said to be strong but only 3 guys appeal to me that we have a shot at.
WR, CB, and RB seem strong to me. Lots of options.
So what are people's thoughts on OT's in this draft?
PFF has the following as top 10.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/draft-ranking-the-ot-prospects-for-the-2018-nfl-draft
ORLANDO BROWN looks like he could be a great RT if he can keep his weight in check. I would be tempted with him in 3rd. He could be a Korey Stringer type RT for us.
BRIAN O'NEILL seems like a good project that you might be able to get in 4th. He has not played the position long, but has played all over until moving to OL.
KOLTON MILLER is a guy I am not a fan of. I think he is strickly a pass blocker and will be fine at that, but not much help for running. He might help in screen game though.

No idea. I'll repeat what a good friend of mine who is a Bears fan said when I asked him a few years ago who he wanted in the draft. "Some guys that can actually play NFL football." :)

Like that :-)
It seems like a lot of the success with some of these guys depends on what situations they are drafted into. Here is an FS that I would be interested in around the 3rd round.

Who? I think you missed the link.
Agreed the NFL is so much about scheme and fit for various players more than any of the major sports. The coach and the GM really need to be on the same page which I think Zimmer and Spielman are and that's a real positive.
1st Round
OT GERON CHRISTIAN LOUISVILLE
I picked him earlier than others have projected and Eich was still on the board. There was some good C/G left on the board, but he is the best LT available. He won't be there in round 2. What Mel Kiper has to say about him. "If we're talking about the highest upside of any of the offensive tackles in this draft, the guy might be Christian. He could be a star left tackle; he's that talented. And he started 39 college games on the left side, so he has experience. Fun fact about Christian: His brother, Gerald, was Mr. Irrelevant in the 2015 draft. The 6-3 tight end was picked by the Cardinals at No. 256 overall."
2nd Round
DL RASHEEM GREEN USC
Frank Ragnow was gone. Rasheem has huge upside. A future NFL five-technique due to his size, strength, length, and agility, Green started all 14 games at defensive tackle in 2017, garnering first-team All-Pac-12 honors after leading his team with 12.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks and being credited with 43 total tackles and four pass breakups. He can be a backup anywhere on the line next year on passing downs and look to start the year after. Could be an upgrade for Hunter at LE in 2019.
3rd Round
LB FRED WARNER - BRIGHAM YOUNG
Tough pick. We don't have a 4th rounder and I like a lot of guys in 3/4th round. Michael Gallup is here and is PFF top ranked WR. Wyatt Teller is one of the last C/G that I like. I took Fred. He's an every-down linebacker. I like the fact that you can get him and he's plug-and-play. He's smart and he's versatile.Fred earning first-team All-Independent status in 2016 with 86 tackles, 10.5 for loss, 1.5 sacks, and three interceptions (one returned for a touchdown). As a senior, Warner started all 13 games, leading the Cougars with 87 tackles, nine for loss, along with one interception and five pass breakups. I continue the theme of landing a player that might replace a salary cap causality. I could see him stepping in for Barr in 2019.
5th Round
G SKYLER PHILLIPS - IDAHO STATE
Debated multiple players here, but went with Skyler Phillips. Phillips brand of hard-nosed run-blocking and ability to get on the edge would work well with the Vikings personnel. They have running backs who get out on the edge, both in the run and pass game. They use a lot of play action and roll-outs. All of these require strong, but mobile linemen to create space. Phillips appears to have the necessary qualities to fit in. He would be in the running to start at RG in 2018 and could swing to LG in the future.
"I always feel like I'm watching a bouncer when I watch him. He's stronger than everyone around him and he can drop some of these guys with one shot. He's the enforcer out there for sure." - AFC East scout
6th Round
Going into 6th with 3 picks of 4 picks to go. Wanting an RB, TE, CB as primary targets. Depth at WR and LB.
6.1 - WR ALLEN LAZARD - IOWA STATE
Big WR that has speed and loves to catch over the middle. Redzone threat. Bigger, faster, better Laquon Treadwell.
6.2 - TE TROY FUMAGALLI - WISCONSIN
Do it all TE that can block and has sure hands. Not a burner, but good 3rd optionbehind David Morgan.
6.3 - LB OREN BURKS - VANDERBILT
He is a depth player. Versatility is what sticks out with Burks. He played safety and both linebacker spots for the Commodores. He has good instincts and the athleticism to cover tight ends and backs leaking out of the backfield. Inside linebacker is Burks' best NFL position, and he was up to 233 pounds at the combine. He's going to be a reliable pro player.
Didn't pick:
DL KENTAVIUS STREET - NC STATE
Kentavius Street Squats 700 Pounds and Runs a 4.58 Laser-Timed 40-Yard Dash at 6'2" and 280lbs. He tore his ACL in a workout for Giants.
7th Round
CB JEREMY REAVES - SOUTH ALABAMA
John Franklin-Myers-DT went 2 picks before we picked. He is a late round guy I really like. I went with CB/S here. Reaves is a physical player with a nose for the football. He has delivered some punishing hits for a guy his size and also has a knack for creating turnovers with 8 forced fumbles and 8 interceptions in his career. He is a bit undersized for the position which likely limits him to a nickel CB role in the NFL but he still has the versatility to play both safety spots if a team asks and probably should be used in a similar way the Arizona Cardinals used Tyrann Mathieu. I think Zimmerman would find a way to use him.
Guys I would look for as UFA:
RB RYAN NALL - OREGON STATE
WR EQUANIMEOUS ST. BROWN
WR RICHIE JAMES - MIDDLE TENNESSEE
LB SKAI MOORE JR. - SOUTH CAROLINA
WR JALEEL SCOTT - NEW MEXICO STATE
WR JAKE WIENEKE - SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
RB PHILLIP LINDSAY - COLORADO
I was joking at work with a guy that has a bunch of family from Cleveland about the draft coming up and what the Browns were going to do. I've seen some articles that said they are seriously considering drafting 2 QBs. It honestly makes some sense.
As for the Vikings there is a lot of talk about the possibility of trading down and still getting an olineman. I'm all for trading down assuming it make sense to do so.
