Yes on Bailey, no thanks on Gordon...can't see picking up a guy that the Cleveland Brwons didn't want.

Apparently Bailey has already turned down 4 offers, including the Browns. Smart...he knows he will be in demand and decided to wait to see if a contender wanted to sign him. I can't imagine a better situation for him than the Vikings...a dome team expected to be in the running for a championship. As much as I like Forbath, I"m guessing the Vikes sign Bailey this week.

Did you ever think Gordon has been in trouble because of the crap culture he's had in Cleveland. The man is a top 12 wide out when he plays. Granted I know he's been
Suspended, even though come on his substance abuse is pot who cares. He's the perfect side out for our team he can play the outside and the slot and move around just like our other two great wideouts. Remember there was great receiver once named cris Carter that nobody wanted.

Also congrats to bikes for signing he 2nd most accurate kicker in NFL History.

Carlson had to go. I feel bad for the kid and hopefully he gets a fresh start somewhere else. But we are Super Bowl contenders (at least on paper). We can't mess around. In hindsight, boy, do the Vikes look dumb for burning a 5th rounder on him. That's Wolves-esque in the squandering of a draft pick!

Q I was ruminating about this...do they look bad because it was a kicker or because the player didn't perform? It does seem like a kicker or punter draft selection gets a different sort of criticism. Q I'm not meaning to single you out at all I was just think about the selection and how sometimes (myself included) we get worked up over a draft selection of a guy that's actually going to play and matter every week to some extent. This one blew up bigtime and will cost them a bit of money (actually pretty minimal) but if Bailey bounces back (there is some chatter he was injured last year which led to him missing some kicks) this may work out well in the end...until it doesn't. Lol ugh

Yeah, you gotta feel bad for the kid. His poor kicking late in preseason and in Game 2 may typecast him as a head case, so he may never get another chance. I gotta believe he's thinking he should have studied a little harder at Auburn, because he's likely going to have to earn a living somewhere other than the NFL. Man, how life can change in just a couple hours!

Yes, the burnt 5th rounder looks bad. But upgrading from a bad Daniel to a terrific Daniel makes them look like geniuses right now! Bailey has only missed 25 FGs in his 7 year career and 13 of those were over 50 yards (and still a respectable 68% on those 50+ kicks). That means he's only missed 12 kicks less than 50 yards in his entire career, or less than 2 per year...that's unreal! Plus, he's only missed 2 out of 278 extra points. Based on his career percentages on kicks inside the 40, there's a 91.4% chance he would have made that kick yesterday to beat the Packers. This just couldn't have worked out better for the Vikings, as they now may have the best kicker in the league.

Kicking in the NFL is a high stress position. You go cold for a few games, or start out poorly like Carlson did and your potential millions of dollars goes down the drain. I can't imagine the pressure. Maybe he'll get a chance in the CFL or something and work his way back. He has the leg, the confidence though, not so much.

I don't know....I agree with the move, but I don't have nearly the confidence that you do. Past performance does not seem to matter when it comes to Vikings kickers choking in big moments (Gary Anderson anyone!?).

That being said, I certainly trust Bailey a lot more in the regular season than the odds of rebuilding a rookie's shattered confidence, especially with our no-nonsense head coach (Zimmer is a little Thibsy in his motivational approach....not very touchy-feel: "Do your job!"..sounds familiar!).

Maybe, Q...or maybe the message was sent to Stacy Coley and Brandon Zylstra who don't seem to have shown enough in practice to move Treadwell out of that 3rd receiver spot. Zimmer can't be too happy that Coley dropped the one pass thrown to him yesterday when he tried to give Treadwell a mental break. I sense it's more that he needs someone to push Treadwell, and the two guys we have aren't doing it. Aldrick Robinson has never been very productive in the NFL, but he is lightening fast and a true deep threat, and has shown enough to have a roster spot in 5 of the 6 years since he left SMU. Cousins didn't target him very much when they played together in Washington, but you know the Vikes must have checked with him before they signed him. I'd still like to see Treadwell get another (or a few more) chance(s), but Robinson will be a nice replacement for Coley and Zylstra...and maybe push Treadwell for a starting position if Treadwell continues to struggle.

All in all, a very good day for Rick Spielman I would say.

LST Cousins was still the backup the first 2 years so he attempted about 200 passes. Regardless of who threw him the ball in Washington his first 2 years had some nice production. In 29 receptions he had 5 TDs with over 20 yards per reception. I'm 69 receptions he has 9 TDs. Kinda fun stuff still an interesting signing. It will be more interesting what the other roster move is. Is someone hurt like Sherels?

Kicking is like golf in that you don't think through the swing, you rely upon muscle memory. Once you start to question yourself and think through the swing you're looking at a long road ahead trying to fix it. Look at Tiger, how long did it take him to regain that confident swing? I feel bad for the kid, but I doubt there was any chance he was going to regain the touch mid-season playing on a contender for which every kick matters!

Regarding Treadwell, too bad that contract is guaranteed because the dude is useless. Even in the off chance he pulls his head from his posterior he doesn't have NFL speed. I don't know what's worse, being a slow WR or a small TE. He'd be gone by now if the negative cap affects weren't an issue.
