That sucks. I do feel like we have some young guys that might be able to step in make the most of the opportunity, but this kills us with Elfein out too.

I was wondering if they would reach out to Joe Berger. Someone is reporting they did.

I think Berger has retired and likely not in football shape anymore and it is not coming back quick at his age.

On the bright side, I suspect the impact from losing one of the least talented players on the roster will be much less than losing an average or better player. Easton was at best average last year, often much worse. I'm not saying the other options are great, but the drop off will much less than losing a guy like Rhodes!
Re: Training Camp - Eagan Year 1
It makes sense to at least give Berger a call. It sounds like he is done though.
This is kinda cold to say and unfortunate for Easton but it's now a positive that the Vikings didn't get an extension done with him. Like SP the guy was honestly average at best last year and it's not out of the realm of possibly someone could take his job and run (or decently amble about) with it. Of course they would probably rather be paying him his nearly 3 million this year to actually play but anywho. Hopefully they can get someone to be decent over there at that spot. Berger and Remmers were basically the only guys that didn't suck according to the PFF numbers last year so...um yeah.

I thought that most of the season. I felt like he couldn't handle the big defenders, but he was probably one of our best OL in the screen game. If Brian O'Neill is going to be LT of the future. I wonder if playing LG this year might be a good thing for him. I doubt we see it, but with Zimmer saying he is more about putting the best 5 out there I would think he would be considered since he seems to be at least giving Rashod Hill some concern at RT.

Wasn't part of the problem with O'neil Not being strong enough? That doesn't seem like a good thing if he is gonna play guard. I think I would be more interested and in seeing one of the guys with a little experience like isadora or Collins get their shot or the kinda decent vet Compton. It's worth mentioning that guys like Compton Sirles Easton and even Mike Harris (who is healthy now but can't play football and is getting into coaching) are basically guys that were picked up after another team let them go and we're serviceable guys. I'd guess easton's value was higher than the typical half decent guard because he was probably a better center than a guard which probably made him a little better overall aside from his position flexibility. Anyway we might have a serviceable guy already to replace him or we might be able to pick up someone that another team cuts.

Strength was Easton's issue too. I am thinking we are better having that moble OL that pulls and screens that the road grader types. I do have hope for some of our backups. Easton was a backup before last year and at this time a year ago I had little faith in him. Honestly I felt he was the weak link.
