Re: Vikings 2019 Offseason Thread
We got him!!! Josh Kline signs a 3 year deal. He got more than what was expecting but we will see how it breaks down.

Looks like we are talking to Rams former backup that looks worse than Sloter to me. We have kept Sloter on the roster for 2 years. Time to make him back up this year or cut bait.

No shit! I was thinking 3M a year tops. Looks like $7.25M guaranteed the first year. Kline seems solid, but I am pulling for Collins to make a big leap this year. His knock was lower body strength and after hurting his elbow and being on IR he should have been able to go all out on leg days.

Sherels to Saints

It looks we are making room to draft another corner.

I wondered even near the end of last season if Sherels time with the team was coming to a close. The Vikings didn't draft a WR but added 5 players to the roster with return ability in Hughes Hill Zylstra Ameer and Beebe. Beebe is probably the guy I would guess is the favorite to return punts and Ameer is likely their KR. Hughes probably isn't going to be doing that coming off an injury but he will be an option. I'm guessing Sherels is going to make over a million and while that isn't a lot it's still more than some rookie or 2nd year guy that signed cheap. Not a big savings but it's something. They have a lot of defensive backs still and even before the draft options for return guys.
Sherels has carved out a nice career for himself I am sad to see him go. His abilities on ST alone make him valueable but even as a depth slot corner he won't kill you out there. The Saint got themselves a good player not a big time guy but a good player. Joe Webb keeps getting a million bucks a year to be a versatile guy that excelled in special teams. There is a place on the league for guys like that. Sherels is a guy I have enjoyed watching over the years. His contributions will he missed and if guys don't step up it could be quite noticeable at times.
Also one less CB on the roster (even as a depth one line Sherels) MIGHT mean less likely to deal Waynes.

I agree. I think a new special teams coach is part of it here. Nobody was fighting for him to be back. I do think they give us the opportunity to develop another CB. Every time Sherels was asked to play defense I was worried he would get lit up. I hope he does well in New Orleans.
In other Vikings news Ikola signed with Cowboys.
CJ Anderson is still not signed and I thought he looked like a monster for Rams last year.

Good read on Kubiak. He has a history of taking bad offenses ranked in bottom 10 and turning them into top 10 units. That is really a good sign. I think Cook could have a huge year if he stays healthy. It would be great to find another back, but honestly Kubiak seems to be able to get it done with less than ideal talent. I will be very curious about how Cousins does in this offense. He should have a career year.

There are a few key elements in Kubiak's brand of west coast offense. They include:

Greater use of zone blocking

Outside stretch run

Misdirection plays and comprehensive play-action fakes - QB, RB and OL sell it

Multiple formations - compressed, wide, 2 TEs, 2 RBs, 3/4/5 wide, bunch

Multiple position players - FB/TE, RB/WR, TE/WR, Outside/Slot WR

QB movement - bootlegs/waggles

Crossing routes
So no more run, run, pass, punt offense? Cool!

Someone else likes Lamont Gallard at Daily Norseman.
https://www.dailynorseman.com/2019/3/29/18287042/lamont-gaillard-c-georgia-day-3-draft-diamond-minnesota-vikings
He would eb a good late round guy. His game is about motor and sticky. He is not a guy that is knocking people on there ass, but more of stays between the defender and ball well. Always moving and good at help. Holds ground by himself.
