That's what Taylor Heinicke is for...unless Shurmer doesn't like him as much as Norv etc did.

Ya, I'm not on the Heinicke train. He had his shot and blew it. This isn't exactly a ringing endorsement:
Bottom Line
"Heinicke has the ball placement and accuracy of an NFL backup when he's protected and dealing, but his small stature combined with his inability to drive the ball and make NFL throws could be hard to overcome once he gets into an NFL camp. Heinicke must play in a timing-based system to have a chance of being on an NFL roster."
Vikings pick
46. Minnesota Vikings - Dan Feeney, G, Indiana
This would be a dream scenario for the Vikings. Feeney projects as a right guard who has also shown an ability to play right tackle and center. Depending how high the Vikings have them on their board, I could see them go with safeties Marcus Williams or Desmond King here if they don't go Feeney.
Round 2 (#46 overall) - Dan Feeney, G, Indiana
Round 3 (#78 overall) - Antonio Garcia, OT, Troy
Round 3 (#86 overall, from Miami) - Pat Elflein, C/G, Ohio State
Round 4 (#118 overall) - Brian Hill, RB, Wyoming
Round 4 (#126 overall, from Miami) - Amba Etta-Tawo, WR, Syracuse
Round 5 (#159 overall) - Zach Banner, G, Southern California
Round 6 (#200 overall) - Josh Dobbs, QB, Tennessee
Round 7 (#237 overall) - Corey Smith, WR, Ohio State
I love it. Not sure I would draft 2 WR's. I would want to at least draft 3 defensive players.
Yeah on drafting WRs.
Dobbs is a name that jumps out at me. I don't know what his draft profile is but I've watched him probably more than any QB in this draft and I like him. For a 6th rounder I might be somewhat excited about taking a flyer on him. I still think the team likes Heinicke though but if you can find another young QB with real promise it may be worth a shot. They probably will have a better idea where Teddy is when it comes to his health by the draft.

Oh no the draft profile! I bet Tom Brady's draft profile was just about that excitng/damning only he was taller but way less athletic. I'm not suggesting Heinicke is going to become one of the best QBs of all time or anything but guys can become worthwhile players despite those meh attributes. Shaun Hill is a good example of that.
Quarterback Specific Traits
Mental Makeup 4 Works within a spread system with a lot of half field and manufactured reads. A lot of room to grow in terms seeing the entire field as a decision maker and understanding game situations. Also has to show a better understanding of ball security. 26-17 career TD-to-INT ratio (improved in 2015 with 15-to-5) and has 19 career fumbles including 10 last year. Will be late with decisions and has to develop more anticipation. Highly competitive individual. Physical tough and will lay his body on the line to make a play.
Accuracy 4 More of a thrower than a passer at this point. Fast ball thrower who has to develop more touch. Needs to improve lower body mechanics to become more consistent with accuracy. Doesn't always step to target and transfer his weight and will miss on some routine throws as a result. Better accuracy with power throws down the field.
Release/Arm Strength 2 Compact ¾ to over the top release. Gets the ball out quickly but can improve load to arrival time if he learns to tie his feet with his eyes with more consistently. Arm-strength is well above-average. Gets plenty of velocity with power throws down the field.
Pocket Mobility 2 Dual-threat quarterback with excellent athleticism and mobility. Able to buy time and extend plays with his feet. Has the ability to put stress on a defense and move the chains as a runner. While he can affect the game with his feet he doesn't have great pocket awareness or poise at this point. Too often relies on his mobility as a crutch instead of sliding inside the pocket to buy time and work through progressions.

I'm not a fan of drafting 4 o-linemen with 8 picks and I don't think we need any WR's. That's an over commitment to a weakness. That's 6 out of 8 picks which is at least 3 too many considering we need D-line depth and another linebacker. I don't think you can walk out of the draft with 0 defensive players. We still need depth on that side of the ball.
Khans I agree with you. I would draft 3 if they makes sense and you think they have a shot to start next year. I would Sign a LT, move Boone to RT, draft 3 rookies, and hope 2 are good enough to start. Birk would play where ever we need someone.
Draft a RB and 4 defensive players. This is supposed to be a strong draft for DB's and you should take one or 2 along with a DL and LB.
