You can say picks after the 5th round are useless or whatever but look at the Vikings roster and you will find plenty of guys drafted and undrafted that are plenty useful players some of them are starters. It's a crapshoot and picking 20 spots higher once you get to a certain point doesn't exactly mean you are gonna get a better player. There are so many prospects. On top of that they went up to get a couple guys so which is it take higher picks or not?

Monster - I think for me it was having some many picks late. I would use them to trade up earlier if you can. I think in the end it hurts you a little bit signing UDFA's.

For example, Why would Hunter Dimick sign here when we drafted a DE in 7th round? Why would Jimmie Gilbert sign here after we reached on Ben Gedeon? If I am Lorenzo Jerome I would consider signing her because we didn't take a Safety, but might not consider the Jets.

I read somewhere the Patriots have had the most UDFA on their team and say having to many picks in the draft hurts them because they have depth and have to cut them. Those 7th round picks are not worth anything according to the draft pick value chart.

Round 2, Pick 9 (No. 41 overall) Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State
Round 3, Pick 6 (No. 70) Pat Elflein, C, Ohio State: (sorry Dorian Johnson, G Pitt)
Round 4, Pick 2 (No. 109) Jaleel Johnson, DT, Iowa
Round 4, Pick 14 (No. 120): Desmond King, CB/S, Iowa (sorry Will Holden OT)
Round 5, Pick 27 (No. 170) Nathan Peterman, QB, Pittsburgh (sorry Brian Allen, CB, Utah)
Round 5, Pick 37 (No. 180) Tanzel Smart, DT, Tulane
Round 6, Pick 17 (No. 201) Bucky Hodges, TE, Virginia Tech
Round 7, Pick 1 (No. 219) Hunter Dimick, DE/DT, Utah
Round 7, Pick 2 (No. 220) Jaleen Myrick, CB, Minnesota
Round 7, Pick 14 (No. 232) Elijah Lee, LB, Kansas State
Round 7, Pick 27 (No. 245) David Jones, S, Richmond

I did this off my board and tried not to cheat up. I missed out on a developmental LT and a thumper MLB. I feel if the Vikings would have passed on Big Ben in the 5th he had a shot of dropping to early 7th.

Cool idea. I'll take a shot and then we can revisit it when the real play starts. See who has the eye.

If you are an UFA and you are afraid of signing because a team picked 10 seventh round picks thats dumb. Teams cut 6th and 7th round picks if someone beats them out.

True but they have already shown they like that player better so in a tie they will go with player drafted.

Westbrook worries me with more baggage.
What new news on Brantley?
I was thinking Gonzalez too.

Your draft did a good job of covering needs and getting value.

Sure but if you are an undrafted guy the odds of you making the team are...slim but you have to plan on coming in and taking players jobs possibly even a guy that's been on an NFL roster for multiple years. If there is an open spot for a 7th round pick and the situation was good for me (scheme and other factors) and that team called I would be very interested.

I'll point out also that if there is a guy you want to sign as an undrafted FA...guess what you already picked them in the 7th round. I can't believe the whining about these 7th round picks. The Vikings picked 4 guys in rounds 2-4 and then had 2 picks in the 5th round and then drafted 5 more guys after that. It's the same every year optimism and nitpicking when it comes to the draft. It's kind of hilarious.

I don't mind picking there but we went overboard with 7th rounders this year in my opinion. Someone needs to put together an all UDFA team. Both current at this year.

The issues with Dede are worrisome as well, but the guy is extremely talented. I think MN is a good spot for some of these situations.

Patriots sign Austin Carr and David Jones a UDFAs. Both sleepers.
