I feel bad for the kid, but I doubt there was any chance he was going to regain the touch mid-season playing on a contender for which every kick matters!

Regarding Treadwell, too bad that contract is guaranteed because the dude is useless. Even in the off chance he pulls his head from his posterior he doesn't have NFL speed. I don't know what's worse, being a slow WR or a small TE. He'd be gone by now if the negative cap affects weren't an issue.

Sure he was a former first round pick and getting paid and a that stuff but this team has been giving him snaps and he must have done something to elevate himself to the clear #3 WR spot before having some dropsies. Some of that could be the guys behind him aren't ready but I don't think they would just cut him. They are seeing something from the guy in practice etc. I still think there is a legit chance he turns into a solid receiver for this team not worth the 1st round selection or the money we had to give him over the life of that contract. He can still work his way back in various ways. It's not like a kicker that has pretty limited ways of helping and working his way back while actually in game action (basically kickoffs) other than making kicks. It was a brutal day for both Treadwell and Carlson though.

I agree that on balance Treadwell had a brutal day, but let's not forget he caught his first NFL TD pass and was aggressive in his downfield blocking all day (something the coaching staff really likes). Cousins seems to like him...talks about developing chemistry with him in practice, and continues to target him. Now, if that interception that was all Treadwell's fault had resulted in a loss, maybe Cousins would be feeling different about him today. But for the moment, it seems like he still has confidence in him.

When someone is struggling you can either call them out and risk adding more stress to their situation, or you can voice your support for them in the hopes it'll lessen the stress and allow them to breathe. Due to his contract situation Treadwell isn't going anywhere so if you're the Vikings the second option is really the only course to follow. Finally, he bobbled that TD catch too, we're lucky that didn't get dropped.

I'd love to hear a list of names of highly drafted players who stunk their first couple of years but eventually lived up to expectations!

I'm sure someone can come up with a list. He doen't have to be awesome he can just become a Michael Jenkins or something and that's worthwhile. Treadwell turned 23 in June so he is still pretty young. At least he hasn't gotten cut loose by a few teams the last couple months like a guy picked ahead of him in that same draft Corey Coleman. Would I bet Treadwell being worthwhile? No but I don't think he is a lost cause yet. Time will tell.

Again, his contract precludes his being cut loose by his first team so there is no way to be sure he wouldn't be on his third team too.

Obviously, Treadwell has shown something since he won the 3rd WR job. He beat out Kendall Wright. Would I rather have Jarvis Wright still? Hell yes, but there is some reason he is playing. The contract certainly helps, but this team is about winning.

Treadwell is Treadsworn. If you're slow you better well be physical, a good route runner and have great hands. About all I see is some physicality. Complete bust so far.

I don't really see how 3 drops in one game is a mental problem. Seems more like he doesn't have the hands of an NFL receiver. Those gloves are basically like wearing sticky tape. So much so guys can make one handed grabs look easy. Good organizations just move on from guys who don't have what it takes to make it in this league regardless of draft position. He's just shown nothing in 3 years to signal he is an NFL receiver. I would cut bait after this season because we just don't have a decent replacement in the meantime.

Wright could be cut with minimal cap hit, Treadwell would apparently cause an almost $6M cap hit because his contract is guaranteed. Given the Vikings are going to be up against the cap for the foreseeable future that is going to impact player decisions on marginal players. I believe 100% he would be gone if not for the contract situation.

So why is he the 3rd WR? I honestly I do like how he blocks, but he needs to punish nickels and safety's to be on the field.
