Also from Neal, the stumbling block between Matt Garza and the Twins seems to be Garza's demands for a four- or five-year contract, as Minnesota isn't willing to make that long a commitment due to injury concerns. That said, Neal isn't counting the Twins out of the Garza race yet as he hears the team is still in the hunt."
Umm, I hope the Rangers or Giants swoop in and take Pelfrey. I can't stress how much I don't want him back. If we do re-sign him, I'll root for the guy obviously, but man... I'm not a fan of him.
So the Twins won't offer four years to Garza? That makes me think that our FO has brought up to Garza's agent a 3-yr/$45M deal that they shrugged off quickly more than likely. They say that no offer has been made, but numbers are always thrown around. No source for that. Just a personal thought.
Gotta think if Minnesota budges and offers four years, Garza's ours at $15M per.

This is the same thing I heard about the diamondbacks and I don't think the angels want to spend the money to get him. So if there's not a mystery team who ever gives him the 4th year will get him. Maybe we can talk to him into a team option. Is it just me or do you get the feeling that Garza wants to be here? This guy has been bounced around so much lately I think he just wants some stability and he knows if there's one organization who does that it's the Twins.

Twins signed Pelfrey back for two years/$11M. Kill me. Right now. Two bullets to the dome please. Thanks.

Gotta make sure the first one works. I don't wanna take any chances.
Fuck Pelfrey. And we overpaid him.

I know we have different views about Pelfrey, guys, but I don't think you have to worry too much about this signing. With the Hughes/Nolasco signings combined with Gibson and Meyer perhaps being ready to contribute, we are deeper in starters than we have been in a long time, and Pelfrey is going to have to earn a starting spot. If he starts out the year with a 5+ ERA like he did this year, Gardy will have several options to turn to and Pelfrey won't stay in the rotation. By the way, I think the same thing goes for any of the potential starters, regardless of how much Ryan spent on them. After two horrible seasons, the Twins are in danger of losing their fans, and they need to "win now". Pelfrey may start out in the rotation (unless he is terrible in spring training), but I'm convinced Gardy will have the best possible five in the rotation by May.
Based on the way he finished last year, I think Pelfrey will stay in the rotation as a 4-5 starter. I think Correia is a more likely candidate to blow up this year and drop out of the rotation.
Regardless of who ends up starting, it's clear that we are in a much stronger position with starters than we were a year ago. Hats off to the Pohlad boys for dipping into that enormous trust fund!

Nolasco/Hughes/Correa. Only "reliable" starting pitchers. Deduno's coming back from injury and Pelfrey's coming back from being garbage. Let's hope the Twins get lucky and they produce something worth a damn.

Pelfrey actually got a RAISE after the year he had in 2013. How do you perform like shit and get MORE money? Think Terry Ryan fucked up with this one.
All I wanted was Garza or even Arroyo. We could have used this $11M and put it towards that fourth year Garza wants/demands.
Ugh. :( :( :(
I guess I should just be happy we signed Nolasco and Hughes like I wanted.

Did anyone here notice Pelfrey's ERA by month last year? I thought they should bring him back and 5 million or so for a starter thats been successful in the past and showed some signs in his first year after TJ. Deal Will he be amazing? Probably not but they need guys he has a good shot at giving them a chance to win. I hope you guys didn't pull the trigger I'd miss ya.

He had a strong July/August (under 4 both months), but September was brutal (7.45).

I guess I rather give the ball to Gibson and save the money because if use the TJ theory on Pelfrey you've to use it on Gibson too.
