Wow Stafford to Rams with Goff to Lions.
I like this better for Lions but can see the win-win scenario if Stafford can get them to a Superbowl. It is all in trade in my eyes to max out the roster with Aaron Donald.
How ugly will Rodgers and Packer's relationship get?
Is there really interest for Cousins from 49ers?
QB Shuffle
Re: QB Shuffle
While I think Stafford is an upgrade over Goff the Rams have pretty much maxed out their credit cards in terms of draft capital at this point. The last 1st round pick they drafted and kept was 2016, and now they'll not have another to use for trade or draft until I believe 2024. They likely have maybe a two year window in which to hit the jackpot because odds are that team is going fall apart soon, and fast!
As for the Lions, draft capital is nice, but as Wolves fans we all realize how meaningless it is when you rarely spend it on worthwhile players. The Lions haven't been much, if any better drafting than the Wolves so their whole existence is an exercise in hope. I actually feel bad for Lions fans.

Re: QB Shuffle
What would you want for Cousins? I'd take a 3rd. Then we can hope to hit on a QB in the draft and get out from Cousins paycheck. Cousins is a good QB but makes too much, so I'm fine letting him leave and hoping to hit in the draft.

Re: QB Shuffle
The bar is set to get a lot more for Cousins than a 3rd. If the 49ers called it would take at least a 1st and 2nd to make that trade based on what Stafford commanded.
Re: QB Shuffle
I believe Stafford deserves a shot at being on a contending type team. The Rams didn't just pay to get Stafford they also gave up assets to get rid of Goff's contract. 2 year window? That may have been their window with Goff. If Staffford can stay heathy he will be very good for them.
As for the Lions I think they did pretty well. If Goff is a legit NFL starter and stays healthy he is worth about what they are going to be paying him in terms of what the market for QBs is. If he sucks well...that's ok they have draft picks and that also means they will be higher picks. I don't think Goff is gonna break out or anything but he turned 26 in October I believe so it's not like he is trash just overpaid. If he is more of a fringe stater then it's good they got those picks.
The problem with the Lions for many years what injuries. I believe their last GM's draft ledger was pretty bad if it's the one I was reading about a couple weeks ago. It feels like they have assembled a pretty solid coaching staff. That's been a problem at times also.
Teams called about Stafford. That doesn't mean they are gonna come after Cousins. Heck the Rams checked on and supposedly made a big offer for Rodgers but the Packers didn't want to deal him which isn't surprising.
If some team offered a 1st round pick for Cousins that would be pretty hard to turn down. I think a team is gonna have to make a pretty good offer for the Vikings to deal him unless Cousins wants to go somewhere. If the 49ers thought they could basically get Cpuisns for giving up say a 5th round pick yeah they probably do that or for sure look into it. I think Cousins is likely an upgrade just because he is likely to be healthy. For the Vikings why trade away a good Starting QB for some mid round pick? (especially when they already have a bunch) to still be paying Cousins a bunch of money this year (20 million dead cap) and have no QB? It seems pretty clear they are sorta building things around him to some extent. I think to deal Cousins they would have to feel pretty good about there being a QB available that they really liked to draft at their spot. That seems to unlikely to know at this point. I think they would also need some sort of legit draft asset to fill another spot on the roster. I think a 3rd round pick is the bare minimum the Vikings would take to deal him (assuming they liked their chances of drafting a QB) unless there is simply something I don't know.

Re: QB Shuffle
I think any deal for Cousins would start with a 1st rounder and likely require more. I just don't see us moving on from him. He has been incredibly healthy during his career. He has been very productive and think that anything we do is a step back and ownership would have to be on board with that.
I think Goff is somewhere in the 20-25th best starter in the league. Since the Rams Superbowl appearance, they have had lots of turnover on OL and RB. Remember how good Gurley was? I think he can be a good QB on a solid team. It will be interesting to see how Goff, Winston, Haskins, and even Rosen careers end up.

Goff and McVay both looked really good when they improved their oline with various additions. Some of those guys are gone or haven't stayed healthy. Wentworth was a heck of a signing although he got hurt this year.

Re: QB Shuffle
I agree it SHOULD start with a 1st but I would take a 3rd rounder. You have to look at what he makes as well.
Cousins is scheduled for 31 and 45 million.
Stafford is scheduled for 33 and 26 and 3 million. I'm guessing that last year he either gets a new deal or is a backup of some sort. I doubt he is going to play that contract out as is.

Here is another way to look at Cousins.
The Vikings are already paying him 20 million in signing bonus regardless of what they do with him. So that means if nothing else happens they are paying him a total of 56 million the next 2 years. That's 28 million a year. I think most would agree the market says Cousins is worth over 20 million a year. So let's say he is worth 25 million a year is moving him to save 3 million a year worth it?
Now here is another angle. Let's go to the big idea of trading Cousins because we are going to draft a good QB. Are we planning to get a HOF guy? Perennial Pro bowl consideration QB? A top 15 QB type? What if we assume the same for whatever position we draft? Imagine drafting a LT that's a pro bowl player (or even a HOF guy) for the next decade plus. That would be MASSIVE. What if they draft the next Aaron Donald? If we are going to aim high for a QB with that pick why not assume we get a very good player (even something more like Anthony Barr) not just an average guy? Imagine if the QB they draft is the next Average to below average player at his position. The team is likely screwed for 2-3 years and the money they saved at QB will mean very little. Swinging and missing on a position player who ends up to just be reasonably serviceable like say a Reily Reiff type wouldn't hurt the team so bad. A total swing and miss on a LT would be tough (sorta happened with Kalil) but it's still not quite and bad as missing on a QB.
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Cousins is the answer or we should keep him if some team blows us away with an offer...or that we can't do better but I think there are a few different ways to build up this team and in some of them Cousins could be a part of the answer. It wasn't that long ago that Carson Wentz was one of the stud young QBs in the league. Jimmy G was very highly regarded at one time. Meanwhile Cousins has continued to produce and be healthy. Drafting a QB doesn't always lead to positive results or could lead us right back to where we are now a guy that's good enough we have to pay him a bunch of money...but he might not be worth it in terms of building a team around him. Of course IF you nail that QB selection...then you are set. What are the chances of that though? I'm just looking at a few different angles. Trust me the idea of a young promising QB sounds VERY good to me and I LOVE draft picks almost as much as Rick Speilman! Lol
Re: QB Shuffle
Cousins has been the most successful qb the Vikings have had in the last 40 years statistically speaking and they have won a playoff game with him. For all his warts if he had a top ten OLine this Offense would explode. Shore up the O line with a vet, draft a DT, DE and get an experienced Cb and lets see what happens.
